What Can I do today?

I'm starting off as an SDR in 3 months for a multi billion dollar company. I haven't worked a sales only role for any large company. what can I do today to start preparing?

I'm thinking:
- Sell for a company in the meantime
- Try to build up my LinkedIn influence
- Network with sales people

or comment something I missed that you would do.

what would you do before you start working

In 3 months? Just chill. Relax. Don’t be in a rush. Go backpack somewhere. Do something else cool. Professional life will come quick enough.

Exactly. You won't have the free time later that you have now. Enjoy it.

What is your previous experience?

I assume a 3 month start date is because you’re just graduating?

Selling for someone else for 3 months sounds like a good idea but you probably won’t ramp by the time you leave. I’d build a pipeline of prospects and be ready to pounce.

Are you just about to graduate?

You're about to enter a new role and start work. My advice is to enjoy the time you have now and not work for another company. You'll have the rest of your life to work! Also, multi-billion dollar companies tend to train well, so you'll have that to look forward to. In the meantime, you could do a couple of things so you're not totally coming in cold. The Bravado academy has been recommended - I'd consider that. I'd also consider reaching out directly to the hiring manager and asking what s/he recommends that you do to prepare yourself. Maybe there are training videos or other collateral they can point you to so you can do some preparation.

Congratulations on finding a role!

Congratulations! My oldest is getting her degree this year as well. I know how much work it is. Getting a job is a credit to your efforts; it’s not an easy market. Enjoy your summer. You’ve earned it.

Thanks it definitely took some work, I applied to over 300 jobs.

Congrats on your oldest and I wish her the best of luck. 🎉

Build a list to the best of your ability. Get used to what it takes to prospect hard. Hit phones fast. Hit phones hard. Good luck!

You have 3 months to understand: What has worked for other SDRs…and what has not; What your sales team is looking for…and what they’d like to avoid; What got the initial attention of current customers…and how to get those themes weaved into your LinkedIn profile; Which accounts can be your quick pocket stories…and gather some links to validating success stories; Connect to subject matter experts on LinkedIn and join groups relevant to the new offering…to study how people talk and ask questions. Flag people you think are good targets…and then create (and save) custom searches to find more personas like them. Refining your Skills Mastery early and hitting the ground running will separate you from the many SDRs who want a job with a checkbox task list, or want to play the ‘I just want to look busy’ game, or plan to be ready to blame-the-system until success trips over them card. Happy selling!

Try selling for another company if you have a chance to get a little bit of experience since that would be your first role!

Find 100 potential customers. Find the POC (linkedin, zoominfo, etc). Start calling.

as an SDR i find it hard to believe you would have any real "influence" ppl would care about on linked in. not trying to be mean but thats normally what I see.

but you COULD try to connect with key ppl in the industry on linked in and see what topics they talk about, HOW they talk about the industry and what language THEY use so you know how to sound natural when you start as an SDR.

get it!
