what's with the acronyms

I don't know what sparked it, but for some reason all of my colleagues have started using acronyms in pretty much all of their slack messages.


I know what most of them mean but for the life of me could not figure out what TLDR means. I, of course, refused to look it up for days because I was determined to figure it out on my own. I never figured it out, had to look it up, & then was pissed I had to google it lol


Please tell me I'm not the only one who didn't know this one. & yes I'm purposely not saying what it means

I have to Google half the things I see and hear.  Insurance, life sciences, military contracting, and then social...all have acronyms, not to mention business with QBR and KPI.  It's total alphabet soup out there.  I'd prefer to be caught out on paper and have a sec to check myself than have my skip-level SVP toss an acronym at me in a meeting leaving me just nodding and trying desperately to figure out WTF he just said and what it could mean, keeping him busy while I surreptitiously check Google on the phone I have hidden below the camera level.  

TL:DR is the ultimate "I'm too lazy to read your stuff", but can also be helpfully used as an executive summary (I've seen that on some posts here, and thought it clever), and also be used sarcastically when someone's just posted a bunch of...text somewhere.

it's usually at the end of long slack messages where they just summarize everything. so i've never necessarily seen it sent to someone but I guess you could if you were feeling extra snarky that day
