What’s your biggest pet peeve in sales?

For me, it's prospects declining a meeting invite without providing an explanation or not showing up without an explanation

Shit happens I get it but that has to be my number one gripe.

Being left holding the bag for any shortcomings outside of direct revenue generating activities both internally and externally.

Shipping dropped the ball and now my customer’s project is super delayed because they were counting on receiving my part? Totally my fault for not getting repeat orders I guess.

The workflow that we faked during a demo but was told by the product team would be working by the time the solution was implemented turns out to be impossible? Guess I’ll take the L for not renewing and expanding that account, right?

The economic buyer that gave me verbal confirmation a week before getting hit by a bus? If only I would have sold him harder, he still might be alive.

Somehow, none of this contexts factors into your closing ratio.

This is by no means limited only to sales. There are people who bitch and moan about the same ole shit all the time yet it never ocurrs to them to look in the mirror. God forbid you should suggest that it might be within their power to change things going forward because in their eyes you are cruel, insensitive and a threat to their victimhood status.

Ok, here’s another one, only happened to me once but left a lasting impression 😅:

LOB gives me a written confirmation they chose us as the vendor to go through (after an rfi), and hand me over to procurement.

Procurement hard balls me, asks all kinds of discounts, not even having an idea what our solution is really about, who will be using etc. - not a clue!

So, i write to the champion form the LOB, copy their head, ask for a call to voice my concerns that procurement is ruining this project and the head answers - sorry, we cant meet with you until proc is done… this said by the same person that met me and the team 7-8 times already, that we provided a free trial for , custom user guides etc…

Long story short, i closed the deal after while two months of negotiations with proc and legal, and the minute the docusign was done, sure enough i get an email from the LOB - let’s meet to kick off the project asap!

I know it’s only business, but i was more than happy to handover this account to the customer success team and i’m not even coming back to them to ask for referrals 😅
