When do you think the job market will be hot again?

With the continuous layoffs happening, I'm thinking maybe mid-Q1/Q2 2023. Too optimistic?

I don't think it will be at the Q4 2021/Q1 2022 level, but hopefully, it will be much better than now.

When do you think the job market will be hot again?

Capital markets have been drying up and interest rates are compounding the problem. Based on the layoffs that have been happening in tech... EVERYONE is hunkering down for the market to rebound and be investment friendly. The tech gold rush has ended and now we're all feeling the course correction from that hiring spree. My guess is the end of 2023 or mid-2024.

I'd agree that a large part of what's happening in tech is correction.

Totally agree with the correction as well, most of those layoffs are companies that got big rounds of funding last year and hired like crazy. My thought was that since this correction started in Q2, it should end in a couple of quarters but seems like it will continue.

It will continue because even companies that didn't overhire may have overfunded projects that they'll eliminate or consolidate.

There will also be a consolidation of players in the same market, I believe. All of this will lead to a drop in the headcount.

From what the fed said with rates, we have a ways to go. But if I've learned anything in my life, never trust the feds. So who knows

My assumption is that the hiring might start again in Q1 as most of the invested companies have to show growth in some manner and hiring more people is a sign of expansion. Just my guess.

No one is going to hire around the holidays really. I think Q2 2023 is either going to be economic collapse or insane growth. My money is on volatility haha

Itโ€™s impossible for anyone to know this. Take a dozen different guesses and maybe one of them will be right. People will hail that person as a genius and theyโ€™ll build clout, but the reality is nobody can know exactly when the market will suddenly rebound.

I know big giants are laying off mass but there are companies who are hiring...like Zoho, Amazon is still hiring. Not really sure when it will pick up ...maybe when US release cash into market ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ .. I see it as market is resettling itself. Companies have hired numerous staff in 2021 and before.

I think it depends on what altitude you're talking about. For tech B2B SaaS AE's, the job market is still very darn good. A month ago we had a big part of our sales team dissolve, and out of the dozen plus folks on my team, more than half already have landed jobs and/or have accepted roles and will start soon. I'd call that a pretty good market.

There's no denying that there is belt-tightening going around; many PE boards especially are asking their portfolio companies to scrutinize overhead (many of the smarter PE boards started doing this in Q1 of this CY). However, companies still need to grow, and smaller companies are picking up a lot of the individuals leaving the larger companies. It's very much cyclical and not too surprising. The big tech companies also wantto extend this perception of market weakness because it helps them keep their churn numbers down, which they struggled with mightily the last couple of years.

So, if your question is, when will big tech companies go back to the crazy hiring that they did in the last 2 years? Yeah I would give that another 2-3 years perhaps.
