Which Job to Select

I’ve been offered 3 jobs, all in different tech sales roles. It’s perfect timing since I’m about to be laid off from my current employer. How do you select the right company to work for? What do you look for in order to make sure you don’t have any fomo later on?

What do you value the most in an employer? Rank them in importance. And then put where the 3 jobs are at.

I would recommend RepVue, Glasssdoor, and backchannel to hear what its like working there from former employees

Yes - this will be the most helpful! Anything you can provide about the company (start up/series - public or not, etc) role, salary offer, etc.

Also what you consider important will help.

All 3 are privately owned and all are Enterprise AE roles. Each job is between $250-280k
#1 Cyber company with 4k employees
#2 Data company with 2k employees
#3 Fintech with 800 employees

In this market, job security is #1 then it comes down to quota attainment, salary, and product fit

Very difficult to identify security as anything can happen anytime unless there is a public announcement stating they won’t lay off.

Even more details will be helpful. Are the base/commission % mix the same? 50/50, or are there differences?
Sales cycle? Percent of reps making quota? Size of sales team and churn? Average deal size?

What's important to you? For me, remote work would hold heavier weight on my decision.

Since all are fully remote, it's gonna come down to your preference based off reviews and a little more info gathering. Best wishes. 🤠

I look at reviews (sales team), product fit and salary hand in hand. If they are all aligned and I feel good about them, I will accept the offer.

The "right company" or the "right job" is purely subjective and matter of personal preference. One person might think a job with $0 base and unlimited commissions is perfect, while another person would sacrifice upside for a substantial base salary. You need to figure out what is important to you: office vs. WFE, travel vs. no travel, size of company, stage of company, industry/sector, public vs. private, equity, OTE leverage, WLB, benefits offered, etc.

Do you feel like they all offer the same amount of job security?
If so then how does it look for ease to hit quota attainment?
They’re all in the same range but how’s the split, if it’s different do you value the base security or the comp more?
And tied into quota attainment I would say product fit rolls hand in hand

You have to start by making a list of things you want to have. Like do you want to WFH? Hybrid? Travel?
What kind of buyer do you want to sell to?

Then ask situational questions about culture and the environment you want

Market fit, culture, % of people hitting quota. Don't overcomplicate it and go with your gut.

I would recommend analyzing each job offer with a decision matrix, so you give a percentage and weighting to each value that you consider important.
