My name is Jodi McPherson, and I am the CEO and Co-Founder of Work Simplr. I left corporate to pursue a series of flex opportunities--beginning with Co-Founding Work Simplr.
As I have continued now (2+ years in)--I wanted to share some thoughts on creating sales culture in a start up.
First, it's all in. I learned (the hard way--is anything ever easy?) that in creating a successful environment it is imperative to have structure and full commitment to executing against a road mark or benchmark. Some folks think they can do this part-time....which they CAN, if and only if, they are all in on the time committed. There are no shortcuts or free paths. I have learned to conduct interviews with this in mind. When someone is present and active in sales, they can achieve remarkable results in a concise amount of time.
Second, people do in fact buy from people. We've honed a sales pitch around services and our support...and, at the end of the day, I find customers buy from me, trust me and believe in the services from me. That face to the customer cannot be transactional, it doesn't work to set appointments-much less close the deal. Finding, training and empowering the best people in the sales business catalyzes growth for all.
Finally, I love, love, love sales and marketing. There is something about it I find invigorating. Would love your opinion or thoughts on the top 2 lessons learned in successful sales!
