The wild part to me is the fact that any cold outreach isn't even to try to sell something right off the bat. It's to find out if the prospects organization is facing any of the issues that the sellers product helps solve. Dude is out here saying that any type of outreach is a Geneva Code violation, when it is as simple as

"Hey Steve, I'm Mothy from Blah Blah. We work with a lot of IT Security professionals, and the common issues I hear from them are x,y,z. Any of those on your radar?"

"No."

"Ok, no worries, If any of these come up, feel free to give me a call."

1) They count themselves among the engineers at their company, but they’re not. Because the know this to be true on the inside, their very being is propped up by resentment and self-loathing.
2) They are sequestered away from others in dark cold rooms to babysit machines that are constantly under attack (depending on the company) with no ability to fight back because the 15 year old hacker in Russia or China is infinitely more talented than they are. Again with the resentment and self-loathing, but add on some paranoia.
