Working for a foreign company - Specifically Israeli

For the first time in my professional career, I am working for a company where the ELT or C-Suite sits in another country, specifically Israel.

Initially, I liked some cultural things: Directness, hard-working, and not a lot of 'red tape.' But after some time, there is one negative feeling that I cannot shake. The feeling I am insularly or not actually part of the team. And that my professional experience and opinion is less than that of someone who is Jewish or from Isreal.

Have you experienced the same?

Does it just take longer for them to trust?

Am I blanketing an entire country based on one company?

UPDATE & ADDITIONAL CONTEXT:

  • I've been there a year and have gotten to know them very well
  • I've been onsite with them and they were even more 'clicky' in person. (And I'm not in IT or Marketing so I have people skills)

I haven't experienced this personally, but I think it's common to feel left out when the majority of your team is in another city, let alone another country with a different culture than yours.ย

You've gotta determine whether you feel this way because the rest of the team is actually treating you differently because you're a different religion/from another country or if you're just finding it tough to adapt to different norms. If it's actually discrimination, it'll be a very tough uphill battle to try and change. If it's just the second one, I encourage you to stick it out for a while and make an effort to get to know your team as well as possible.

I have experience working for Israeli-founded companies and haven't had this experience. I've found my colleagues to be warm, friendly, and transparent.ย

As @funcouponsย suggested, being remote makes things hard, and it becomes even more difficult when you layer on big time zone differences.ย

If there are specific things that are happening I'd suggest raising the issue directly. Your colleagues may not be aware of it.ย

When it is possible to travel again, it would be great for you to get a chance to visit your HQ.ย  ย It's much easier to connect with colleagues when you've gotten a chance to meet with them.

Cultural differences are going to exist, but I suspect you are part of this company because they need to leverage you and your understanding of your environment in your territory/country for better success.ย  You're bringing something valuable to them.

edited for clarity: you is not your

I haven't experienced this. Have you tried reaching out to a few of your peers to get to know them?

It is called discrimination, we do it here in America all the time.......especially to Jews. It's just the way it goes, it's not personal, just business!
