Anyone using NFC business cards?

Hey all,

I'm looking at getting an NFC business card, one of those ones you just tap against a phone and the person gets all your contact details saved into their phone and all your socials.

Is anyone here using those cards? What do you like about them? Any recommendations on which companies are best for them? I'm possibly looking at Popl for mine.

Most of my job will be remote, but there will be 1-2 times a year that I'll go prospecting at trade shows and you never know when you'll run into someone that's a good contact to have, so I want a card like this that I can always keep in my wallet.

thanks!

I'm not a fan. Just give me a regular card so I can write notes on it and go through them all after the show for follow-ups.

A tangible card brings me back memories of the person with whom I spoke as well as the overall sense of the project - it's something that's missing in a digital exchange.

Corny AF. Better to ask someone their email face to face and send them a note right then.

I have seen this a few times. Cool concept and could be great for conventions and conferences to make it smooth and quick.

Downloaded Blinq before a conference, but then ended up using the scanner at the booth instead.

So - it was super easy to do, but I haven't really used it yet.

Eh, I'd rather just hand out physical cards. The phone thing can get pretty awkward, and it's easy to just close out of the webpage it opens.

I use the LinkedIn QR code to connect in the moment, and hope the person Iโ€™m speaking with has an actual card so I can remind myself of them later. A mix of old and new if you will.

Agree with this one 100%. LI is great because you can immediately start the convo and a paper, non glossy, card is great because you can take/share notes.

NFC cards are a cool idea but the few times someone had one with me, it ended in awkwardness because it didnโ€™t work the first time or they talked more about how cool the card was and all itโ€™s features and less about them or their product.

They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
I prefer paper so they can write notes on the card.

If you get an NFC card make sure you set it up so they HAVE to input there info and it gets sent directly to you so that you can follow up

if you dont it's no better than a regular business card where they wont call you back.......

Iโ€™m out on the cards in general. Pocket real estate is too rich.

You can share your LI profile pretty seamlessly in a messageโ€ฆthen you actually have a thread open to talk.

My follow up message (as I walk away) hits the notes I really need to know.

All other contact info can be gathered with your excellent sales work later.

Basically, I prefer opening a thread for comms over just getting the card

I donโ€™t go to trade shows, per se, but do attend large chamber events, professional society/special interest group annual meetings, political fundraisers, etc on a regular basis.

Honestly I think this card technology is pretty cool but Iโ€™m not interested in using it myself. I try not to even have my phone out at all when Iโ€™m purposefully networking, and wouldnโ€™t want to ask somebody to pull their phone out for this during conversation.

I prefer paper cards so I can scribble a note on them like others have said. Overly specific example: if youโ€™re ever speaking with a Japanese executive (or otherwise important Japanese person) and they hand you their business card it is meant as a strong demonstration of respect. Youโ€™re even supposed to receive it in a certain manner to demonstrate your reciprocal respect. Hard to do with a fancy dancy techno card I imagine.
