Beyond hope?

Listened to a rep make a sales call today. Not one of my direct reports, but i still have influence over their development. This person is "experienced."

Jumped right in to "Here's our company story!"

Did little to no discovery. No questions, just pitching. Video turned off while everyone else's was on. Just talking talking talking. Letting the prospect drive the conversation.

Should I go jump off a cliff? Is there any hope in this person?

If the rep is willing to change, yes, there's hope. If "experienced" actually means "set in their ways", then that's going to be a battle.
How are you going to deliver your feedback?

i delivered some mild feedback to gauge the receptiveness to it. actually went fairly well. we will see if it translates to action

ugh sounds terrible.
If they dont report to you this may be hard, but I would suggest meeting with them and asking them how they think the call went.

See what they say.

Then ask if they are open to some suggestions and bring up your concerns.

hopefully they WANT to improve.

What was the end result? Was it positive? Hard to judge or comment without knowing how it ended up.

I am sure the person would be willing to change if shown the right direction. Each company is unique and even if you are experienced you got to change to match up :)

This is a good teaching moment for the rep, coach them up a bit. Maybe they dont do a lot of virtual meetings? Let this one fly , if they donโ€™t take the advice or recommendations you give and make the same mistakes, then start worrying.
