Big company or startup better?

I typically worked for start ups and love it

there are definitely downsides and less resources to make things happen but I feel like there's better chances to make better money

every rep I speak to that works for a big organization hates it but loves the benefits it comes with

am I wrong or is the grass always greener
which is better to sell for?

Having done both, I would say the scrappy startup is more fun... but big and steady has its pros as well. If you're worried about working too much, if you want to work a 9-5 go big.

I have no experience with a big company yet. But, from my friends and network, I think the general consensus is that start ups are going to offer you more potentially life changing opportunities and a big company is a good place to be steady with a family and retire.Β

I love the startup environment. Especially if you're one of the first employees. You typically have a big influence on company culture and can end up having a team of super close friends that happen to be coworkers. Plus a lot of pride in leaving your mark on something that could be huge one day is cool. I wish I had never left my last gig as that was what I had. Sometimes better pay isn't worth it

At a startup right now and having my best w-2 year. Benefits are non-existent but the extra bump and equity are worth it if you're single and don't have a family, IMO.Β

This is something I think about constantly, I've only worked for a big company but in my current role operate as a startup with deep pockets.Β

I love the ability to move quickly in the startup area but man its nice to have the well defined and laid out processes of the large big brother.Β

I think if you are scrappy and want to define your own process, the start up life is for you. If you are a mule and just want to execute a well defined plan, the larger companies are probably better for that type of person.Β

I'm scared to go to a big corp because I feel like I will transform into a robot lol, but I haven't been fulfilled by the startups' world yet, but tbh my mistake has been to join very small startups, so now I will aim for startups that have raised their Series B. The word "startup" is also very vague, like a startup with 5-10 employees is very different from a startup with 50+ employees.

Yeah so I did that once. I learned to never do that again. That's the positive I took from the experience.

The small startup or the big corp? My guess is that it’s the small startup, unless you are the founder it’s always a bad experience lol

I've only had experience in younger companies and i love it. Sure it's a grind and the resources aren't always there, but when you close a big deal and get a slack message from a pumped CEO, that shit feels good. Hitting quota and bringing in business has an immediate impact on the biz which is pretty awesome.

Whereas it seems at a big company you're more of a cog.Β

Pros and cons to both. Big corporate machine may mean you are just a page in a book.Β

Small start up your voice is listened to (hopefully) but the risk is that it may not come to fruition.Β

Start ups can be iffy but if it works out and it is a good company then you are in for a huge success. I think it is always worth it to take the risk!

I like to say this to my buddys when working in sales at a big corporation is like the game of thrones. You win or you die(metaphorically).

In between. A true start up can be rough, but a company that has been around 10 years and has 250ish employees and people call a β€œstart up” is the sweet spot
