Boss was shocked to be letting me go

I was recently let go by a company I joined early April. I believed everything was going fine, hit my target for the month I had a target and pipeline was filling. I got on with everyone and my team relied on me for assistance to grow and learn.

This came out of no where and shocked everyone even my boss's boss. it boiled down to apparently the CEO not liking me from a minor group interaction we had for 30 minutes 2 months ago.

This has never happened, my last 2 CEOs I still talk to!

I hate how it will look on my CV. Has anyone else ever experienced this mind f**k?

So instead of speaking with your manager after the interaction about his or her concerns (and giving you a chance to adjust or express your surprise/dismay to your manager and assurances it will never happen again, etc), dude stews on this for two months and lowers the boom?

Terrible management.

This isn't an uncommon story...I would definitely leave it off the CV, even though it doesn't sound like you are at fault. I can almost guarantee that the CEO's dumb action will simply turn off a lot of people that you worked with. Whatever you do though, don't burn any bridges. Good luck!

It doesn’t have to be on your CV. Your CV is what you make it.

That’s a sucky situation though.

Politics happen - when you are interviewing, just be honest. I was hitting my target and my CEO didn’t dig something I said in a group interaction and he called in my papers.

happened to me once - get a new job and just leave this current one off the CV once you land it.

wow.....i have not had that happen, but dont worry about the CV.

if this is the first time, no one will care. if you have a good track record before and did well at this place, you will be just fine.

Sat opposite him at dinner and took interest in his hobbies as he spoke with my boss as well as me. Then at an exhibition for a few days where I didn’t see much of him. Maybe I eat like a pig 😬

Out of curiosity, did the CEO give you that explanation directly or did it come from HR?

No HR there. CEO told CRO that told me.

The company is not going to do well for long. If it's monopoly in play and is this petty - god bless the CEOs direct reportees, the company and the customers.

sadly one of the downfalls of the startup world.

also goes to show how much first impressions do matter. Not saying you did anything wrong. Just a reminder for those of us who may not always out our best foot forward when meeting new people.

So whilst being out of the game for 2 months I’ve secured a new position. I kept it on my CV for the mean time but it will be going. Some people completely got it and some people bulked. Turns out they never replaced me and the team downsized……
