Chat GPT is the beginning of the AI wave that will change everything

The sales function is about to increase in the level of importance to big companies. The "hard" skills (financial planning, tax planning, insurance planning, etc) are about to be replaced by the machines. Although Chat GPT is not the end tool that will cause this, it is just one generation away! Once the machines communicate with each other and have access to state, local, and federal regulations as well as the acceptable parameters of the service provider, the need for smart people will go down. Soft skills will dominate and it will be imperative for us to be more HUMAN than the machines. Creativity, great service, and more profitable relationships can be the result. Anyone disagree?

Didn’t they say the same thing about self-checkout? 8/10 lanes are still open at Whole Foods during peak demand times. Human to human is still more efficient than a human to machine interface.

Be careful with your choice of words. Human to human might be more desired, but it will certainly not be as efficient. That begs the question, how much will people tolerate to have that human to human interaction on hard skill requests? It will be slower and more expensive.

Wrong analogy. That is a machine that does pre-programmed calculations. This is a machine that creates out of thin air and does so with incredible detail and speed. The scenario I painted isn't coming from THIS machine, but will certainly be in the next generation. Try ChatGPT for yourself. It will shock you.

I’ve tried it. It’s a buzzword until it’s accurate and acceptable as an adapted language model.

Yeah, Automation will take some jobs. But certainly not all of them. Certain things can not be automated. Sales is a people business. I'm not worriedtbh.

Not convinced. AI talking to AI isn't going to resolve anything or eliminate the need for smart people. Kind of scratching my head about why smart people in particular are singled out here, to be honest. Pretty sure that automation eliminates the need for repetitive tasks often NOT performed by people of the smart persuasion.

Exactly. The problem imo happens when those people lose out on opportunities due to the advancement of AI.
What is worrisome though is how it could essentially carve out/eliminate a whole segment of a population/workforce devoted to a single industry. That's frankly a scary thought though.

I am a professional writer. I have written articles and columns for over a dozen media publications. My son, who is in college, joined me in challenging this program to create a cover letter for applications to next summers' internship opportunities. The letter required three pieces of personal data and was crafted from scratch in two seconds. The letter was, absolutely, the best cover letter I have ever seen. Blows anything I have ever written (cover letters) away.

Good point. It will certainly replace repetitive tasks that require little to no thought. If you have not yet seen ChatGPT and experimented with it, you don't yet understand. It is incredible.

I'll counter with: did you read the articles about how absolutely wrong AI gets things? I mean as in ChatGPT stating things as fact when they aren't? There are loads and loads of examples out there. This includes one where the Bing AI amusingly declared its love for a NYT journalist and tried to convince him to leave his spouse.
It's just not there yet. Definitely have used it to help hone messages, but also realize that it misses nuance and is confidently wrong about things too.

I can either see this going one of two ways:

1) People embrace the AI wave the same way they did remote work/virtual everything and go all in and realize that human-to-human connection is far more critical than the technology that we think can replace it. (See the increase of in-person meetings/conferences and the whole "revenge travel" phenomenon).

How will AI reflect in the job market when it comes to sales? That I don't know, but part of me believes that as a species, we won't allow AI to replace human bonds and relationships. Would/could it reduce your sales cycle? Absolutely, but people also buy from people, so I'm 100% convinced that AI will fully replace those forms of communication.

2) AI takes over and a boy by the name of John Connor is greeted by a jacked Austrian guy who somehow became the governor of CA.. oh wait, that actually happens..nvm

But yes, the second way can be how AI could be used to automate the tasks that lots of jobs need to be automated. Then the question becomes, what about the people who lose their jobs to AI automation? That's a question I've thought about and frankly, don't know how to answer.

Love this reply! HUMAN interaction is what we need to remain relevant. Develop these skills even more and survive. Hang on to your analytical skills as your value prop - and you could be unemployed very quickly.

AI will automate a lot, but will also create a lot which will need human interaction. Its just the world evolving.

I simply do not care and will continue to do my job as always. Maybe I'll utilize AI for some of the busy work I have to do, but when it comes down to customer conversation and relationships, the salesperson is irreplaceable.

I agree with that last part. People skills will become MORE important as a result. The downside? More competition! Data driven brains will have no choice but to adapt.

Disagreed. There will always be some or the other inventions like it’s has always been and still we have out jobs. So not sure if it will really affect much of what we are doing

Have you tried ChatGPT yet? Try it. It will shock you. It is as big of an invention as the personal computer was. It's just the beginning. The point: if you have great people skills, enhance them. Become the best. THAT is how we survive.

I’m not an expert in this area by any means, but my gut tells me soft skills and emotional intelligence will not be easily replaced. AI and ChatGPT will undoubtedly have a role both now and in the future but I can’t imagine a world where humans are completely replaceable. Knock wood.

chat.openai.com. There is a free section (always down because of the high demand) and a premium section which is cheap. Ask it to create resumes, cover letters, advertisements, taglines, etc. Crazy!
