Tell yourself, “I’m just going to make 5 calls”

Then once you do that see how your feeling and ether commit to 5 more, or just start rolling

It would help to know where you're coming from. Have never done it or are you looking to make minor improvements to hone your skills?

Just know you're going to get told no a lot. But every no you hear brings you closer to a yes. Don't attach yourself to the end result. Just tell yourself the person on the other end of the phone doesn't matter and you just need to make your pitch and get them to say yes to a meeting. They can cuss you out all they want, but they don't matter. Hang up and make another dial

Even after I got over the anxiety about it years ago, I still get that awkward feeling before I start rolling. It’s literally like ripping a band-aid off as others have mentioned. The more you ease into it and strategize and worry about what they might say, that’s when you feel the pain. But if you just clench your teeth and click to call, and the very absolute worse thing that can happen is someone you’ve never met says no, then you personally have lost nothing. But, you’ve gained confidence.

(I hate cold calling out of principal these days. IMO, emails and texts are both efficient and polite first steps. Cold calling should be step 3 or later.)

Who cares? That’s how I look at it. I’m an idiot who is probably calling a bigger idiot. If I piss them off or get hung up on, who really cares? I find the humor in it. I hate cold calls as much as the next person but it is absolutely hilarious that I’m in the drivers seat. Channel your inner “extended warranty” and smash the dials. 🤣

To many cold callers are focused on getting the message across vs building the relationship. At first it’s tough. Put 100% into your numbers. Once you have a base set of numbers, then you can find your worth per call and where you can improve.

Smile while you dial! 😁

But seriously, if you genuinely believe in your product/ solution it makes a huge difference when calling a prospect for the first time. That energy carries over the phone.

Also, don't sound like you're high and overly excitable (sounds desperate) or have very low-energy vibes (reeks of non-belief in your offering). Both extremes will put prospects off. Strike a nice balance.

That's my 2cents! (Though I'm from the UK) 🤷🏾‍♂️

This might sound out of place but trust me, I did this and it helped a lot.

When you're in line at the grocery store, start a conversation with the person in front of or behind you. Nothing deep, just a little comment on something they're getting that you like or something like that, if you can, ask a question to get them talking.

This really helped me to get more comfortable starting and ending conversations. The part in the middle is easier, that's what you're the pro at. Ending the convo has always been the most awkward part for me.
