Commission plan changed 4 quarters in a row

Hey everyone,

Our VP of sales has already told us that the commission plan is going to change again next quarter. 

This will be the 4th time in a row that the VP has changed the plan. 

have you experienced anything like this before? I've been in tech sales for 5 years  and I've bneber heard of anyhh to big like this before on a functioning sales team.

Sounds like either incompetence on exec sales team or stinginess neither of which is reassuring. Saw that you said your commish is steadily trending downwards which means the companies trying to get more money out of you and pay you less… bad mix.

changes for the better, worse, or just versions of "buy 1 get 1 free / 50% off" ?

Regardless, such frequent changes means there is trouble in paradise. Sharpen that resume.

Ahhhhh... goal post move. No es Bueno. Get the bug-out bag ready. Typically, that kind of action is used to reduce payouts when cash flows are thinning.

How drastic of a change though? I've seen it before where leadership might want to push something new so they add some spiffs. Or the worst I've seen was when they decided implementation didn't count for commission anymore - which got changed back after that quarter because everybody was pissed.

Ah, so you're just getting slashed on %.
My last job did that to me as well - so I left!
You know your situation, but when I dealt with that I knew that I could go sell somewhere with leadership that isn't trying to fuck over their reps.
Unless your base is being adjusted HIGHER to accommodate lowered commission % (which to be fair most companies aren't going to do this), I would suggest looking elsewhere as they have shown this is a repeated trend.

Think it’s worth showing these threads to leadership? It’s a small team and I really like everything about the company besides these payouts. My peers are great, I like the product but at the end of the day if I can’t get comp sorted I’d need to leave.

I would NOT show these threads, but I would take talking points and put together reasons why they should consider changing back or making a change to incentivize you to keep working hard.

The company is hurting for cash. Start looking. I was a apart of a place that did that and then they let go 30% of the sales team. Btw- we were 127% over our goals as a team.
