Different Wages In The Same Department

Hi there, in my team we are 3 people with sames goals, age and responsabilities, but one of us has a higher wage than to two other.

He is new in the company (joined 2 months ago) and we are stayers (we joined 1 year and 3 months ago)

What do you recommend us to do? Should we talk with our manager or ir is better just to leave the company?

Thank you so much.

Ps: His salary is 10% higher than us.

Leave or fight?

It can come down to simply:

a) new guy brings a more valuable skillset

b) they sold themselves better during the interview and negotiated a better package

c) it doesnโ€™t matter because youโ€™re not all entitled to the same salary.

At the very least, discuss it with leadership without throwing the new hire under the bus and come up with a well reasoned explanation as to why you think you deserve to be paid more.

Youโ€™re in sales. If you canโ€™t sell your own value, you only have yourself to blame.

This is exactly the answer. Many companies will pay more for new hires; it happens all the time.

bunch of OG's here. Last time i checked, life isnt fair so go out negotiate something better but dont cry about it.

Personally if i were attacking this situation, i wouldnt even bring up the new hire, go in and say, hey i think my value is x, go 10% higher again than the new person, and try that route. If they dont respect you in that negotiation then maybe pull the, well i know they earn x, card and decide from there.

10% is a cost of living adjustment. And is it worth getting your panties in a bunch over?

BUT....

To me this means he's just a better negotiator. And no one is exactly the same as the person next to them, no matter HR wants you to believe.

People who join externally are almost always paid more. If you like the company try to get a raise by showing you are worth more

Sometimes it comes down to how good of a negotiator you are, so start flexing those muscles

Have the conversation with your leadership. Step 1.

If they can't afford it, then they can't afford to have you leave, train and pay someone new to do the same job.

Salary depends upon many factors including negotiation, experience, background etc. He was able to sell his worth! I would simply focus on what I do the best !

Usually the best way to get more money is with a new job. If pay is the most important thing to you, look for another job then either take it or leverage the offer for a higher salary where you are if you want to stay

I got 12k more than a dude that repped half the country. Got 10k more than dudes who had been there for a while. Always was the new hire.
