Fear of Flying?

First post here, was curious if the fear of flying ever caused any problems for you guys and gals? I was never too comfortable with it, but never had to go the John Madden route.

I used to enjoy flying and then all of a sudden I hated it. Maybe not flying for a few years brought this out in me? Anyway, I started following this pilot on tiktok who would answer questions, run through procedures, etc., and that really helped. His @ is pilot_geeza

I've never heard of this guy so I looked him up. He really seems to know his stuff for such a young guy.

I don't have a fear, but I do have slight motion sickness.

I have a hard time with taxis and Ubers - so that part of travel sucks for me. Do you get motion sick on a plane?

I enjoy flying for business becuase it's so much easier than flying with little kids. An hour or 2 of peace and quiet where I can watch TV or listen to a podcast undisturbed.

My favorite part - all the alone time starting at the gate. :)

Never had an issue, though one time on the way to President's Club I had a terrifying tightness in my chest on takeoff both ways - felt like someone VERY heavy stepping on my heart while wearing a stiletto. I knew it likely wasn't a heartache because of my age and overall health but it was terrifying.

Turned out to be some kind of acutecostochondritis. Hasn't happened on a plane since, but I've had some tightness a few times.

I used to be scared of flying but after looking into all the stats on it and all the other shit that comes in life I’m now over it, now getting through TSA, on flight and dealing with all the bs I loathe with a burning passion

I do still. I enjoyed flying as a child, even went through a phase where I wanted to become a pilot (teen years, right?). But I had a bad flight for work during on of my first jobs out of school. Had flight anxiety ever since, at one time I’d start losing sleep long I’m advance of the flight just thinking about it.

I refuse to let it hold me back though. I have a script for some stuff to ease nerves, might have a beer, healthy mix. But it also gets better for me with every flight, little by little. For the record, it’s the turbulence for me as well as a little takeoff.

Turbulence can be a real downer. I'd rather eat a huge bowl of cauliflower than go through bad turbulence.

It sucks, for sure. Side note- they’re doing some amazing things with cauliflower these days.. I’m just saying!

Just fyi, but too much booze will push your anxiety levels the wrong way. Flying gets better with repetition, you’ll be fine.

I absolutely love flying - I enjoy the window seat because even though I have traveled at least 30% for a decade pre-Covid; the moment of take off seems like a miracle every single time. Airport security is meh, though I have Clear and Pre-Check. I love good airports, and even more nice terminals. I also love a good airport bar, all the people you can meet!

Can you tell I miss work travel an insane amount?

I have an irrational fear of heights, and I just drink for fights or do them in the morning so I can sleep.

The actual motion of flying never bothered me, the thought of being in a piece of metal that could crash and surely leave us all dead, however... that`s my fear. That`s why i keep myself occupied, reading, watching movies and sleeping :D

no fear of flying here. I do hate everything about airports though. The process is so long, complicated, and annoying it makes it a nightmare of an ordeal.
