For those that doubt cold calling

Ok, this is not from a high horse.

Every time I open Linkedin there's some asshat influencer saying cold calling is dead, my reaction each time is that they are a moron and should go find a curb to bite for me to promptly end their misery.

Today I connected with 3 new opportunities through cold call, each where they saw my emails but never responded. Cold calling is alive and well, whats dead is people who aren't good at cold calling.

My company does not allow AEs to cold call, or do any kind of outbound prospecting. Which honestly sucks, because the assigned leads have been garbage. And I don't mean like they're being hard asses and difficult to sell to, I mean literally the lead is named "Toilet Paper" and lists "Goldman Sax" (yes, spelled that way) as the company they're with. Not surprisingly, a disconnected phone number.

I was thinking scammers trying to get access to our payment platform (fintech space). But competitors might be right too.

What's even more frustrating is in my 1:1 with my manager he tells me he's "very concerned" about my lack of production (as am I) but then adds that I'm "doing everything right" and has no suggestion on what I can do better. Only that it's a bad look to complain about lead quality because "other companies don't have this many leads."

I just rolled my eyes so far they got stuck in the back of my head.

Has he seen the quality of those so-called leads?

There's no excuse for that in this day and age. It reminds me of the garbage I dealt with 20 years ago. I guess there was no sales evolution for some managers.

I showed him. Then he just says "there's no secret the reps who are doing the best are the ones making the most calls, just keep pounding those phones." Then I look in Salesforce and I'm leading the team in calls.

Anyone who signs up for a trial gets added to a sequence in Outreach, and they are divided up between the AEs. Each of us gets 5-10 a day. The sequence is a mix of calls and emails with the emails being prewritten by sales ops and marketing. We can edit or change them, but it's not encouraged. In addition, there is an SDR team that prospects and sends us opportunities. I'd say on average once a week.

As a closer, I'm supposed to get people on calls and walk them through setting up their account and getting their credit card on file. So I should be having those types of meetings in addition to sending emails and calling. Hasn't really been working very well though.

Agreed, you see this stuff on LI all the time, itโ€™s crap.
Cold calling isnโ€™t dead but from a management perspective, itโ€™s expensive.
I know, it depends on the product/service that youโ€™re selling but a scattergun approach may yield some success but it may not be the most economical way to do it.
I often cold call when Iโ€™m in a clients neighborhood or take companies names down and call them later. I actually enjoy the chase but Iโ€™d estimate that my conversion rate would be around 50% or less.
Nice win btw. Maybe Iโ€™m just crap at it. ๐Ÿ˜‚

I think itโ€™s dead in enterprise fintech, I stopped cold calling, nobody picks up at big banks, even if you find their #.

Absolutely I personally know people who made millions of dollars out of cold calling.
Only the F** scammers make us look bad that's why people started not to count on em as they used to, but still reliable though for many!
