I respect rules and policies.I am new this platform and even to sales world. I didn't knew that adding my website address will lead to any violation.

Hence I have removed it.

So you want to contract a person to do the dirty work for you part time and pay them commission only? Ugh, Sounds like youโ€™re trying to have your cake and eat it tooโ€ฆ

Agreed

If founders can't sell it themselves why could some schlub?

I have been freelancer for good 6 years and most of my projects were from referrals. That means my retention is good and I think that because of my valuable and transparent service delivery.

With all these experiences, I think I am good at close but regular lead generation and prospecting is not my thing especially when it comes to make system around it.

Senior Product Designer
Its not like that. You are making it look dirty. That is why I mentioned word "Partner".

There are 2 parts to this business, sales and service delivery.
I am expert of service delivery and I am looking for someone who can join me to get my sales part right.

Initially, may be he/she has to do work himself but if there is potential, we can grow a sales team.

I think there is a hiring market for this type of role. Especially among more "green" people with little to no experience. I'm not sure if that's what you want, though.

On a side note, this post sounds a bit like an advertisement for the role-- especially since you included the company name. I'm assuming you're new to this page. Generally speaking, fishing for employees here is not allowed. Just a heads up.

@WheelofCheeseI understand your concern. I included company name just to let people know more about product.

Question is around the perception in sales community around this. As you mentioned people with no or very little experience will be suitable for this? Does this type of model not work for experience people?

Why would an experienced person take this gig?

You might be able to find an experienced person, but I would imagine most experienced professionals wouldnโ€™t be interested in this model. Theyโ€™ve earned their stripes. A commission only gig is a bit of an insult to most people that can easily find a role with a base salary. That was my thought.

A commission only gig at an unproven business to boot.

This make sense. We are good at service delivery but sucks at lead generation and prospecting.

- Hiring with base salary doesn't work for us because we don't have capital investment and then there will be no room for experimentation otherwise we will be drained.

- Hiring a unexperienced person will lead to uncertainty.

What are my options then?

Can you look at potentially taking on an investor? Give them a % of equity. Thatโ€™s what Iโ€™d do. Then youโ€™ll have the capital to invest in experienced people.

What a typical salesperson would charge per month for part-time. And how much sales can one generate for this type of niche?

Are you trying to hire someone local to you or based in North America?

Definitely not local. But not sure about the location at this moment.

Iโ€™m going to defend this guy (this time). He admittedly didnโ€™t know the rules of engagement prior to posting. He also removed the earlier portion of his post out of respect for the guidelines. Itโ€™s a learning curve on this site.

Just a thought.. maybe you could find a real estate agent looking to transition out of their field. Theyโ€™re already used to a commission only gig. Youโ€™d have to train them on your product, though. And perhaps allow them to keep doing their real estate gig on the side.

I see partnering in some roles like car and real estate sales where you need someone who can help capture inbound lead or just be there when you are not.

Under what you described above, I donโ€™t see the need.

Not sure how many people with experience will take a role with 0$ base especially the current economic environment. Might either evaluate the Comp structure or expectations with experience level
1
Senior Product Designer
Forgot to mention... I understand that one bad experience would not justify the model.

But how would I make sure that if that person is actually striving to get sales?

Comparing a sales person to the founder due to no guarantee is the wrong mindset, because why would a sales person want to take on the same risk as the founder but not the benefits if the company is a success?

If the comp plan is not the best dont expect the best candidates
0
Senior Product Designer
Then how will that work for a founder when there is no guarantee.

I am not a salesperson but I think If I happen to be, high commission job would be fair because I would guarantee results.

I hired a local few years experienced salesperson for 3 months and I got no results.

You cannot guarantee results because you have zero proof of your process or business model.

You say you hired an experienced sales person and it failed, but you canโ€™t sell water to the ocean.

Technically not hiring but partnering because no base salary is included.

You want to hire a commission only salesperson, be prepared to offer equity and a c-suite title. But post the ad on a recruitment site, please.
