Give/Get Always

Something I was once taught that I think can be extremely powerful in sales and negotiations and I wanted to share it with you all in hopes that it helps you in your careers

NEVER, under any circumstances, give without getting something in return

NOTE, this only works in the sales, negotiation setting, karma and the law of attraction is a real thing and its not always a requirement in life to get something when you give and it's often better to give bigger than you get.

That said,

If someone asks for a contract, ask/set a timeline to close

If someone asks for a quote, ask who it is going to and to set a meeting with that person

If someone asks for a discount, confirm next day signature and payment

Is someone want a lower price, extend the terms

These are just some examples but can go a LONG way in not only increasing your closing % but your reputation as a killer in business and one whose time is respected knowing that you get things done.

Let's hear some other give-gets or thoughts on this idea!

Good list!

I tie discounts to close dates and also other items, such as participation in case studies or reference calls.

Agreed when it does come up: tying discounts to close dates moves revenue through the pipe

Close dates and discounts can always be explained to customers: weโ€™re incentivizing a close in x month to balance our onboarding (for example). This gives you as a rep some flexibility to actually not tie solely to EOQ discounts.

Wow! I hope your manager and my manager aren't the same, because I heard the same advice from him on the team meeting this afternoon!

But yes, I learnt it the hard way - you have to ask for something in return for everything you give!

This was the topic of discussion on an internal call I was on today so itโ€™s very ironic to see it here and very true
