Greatest 1:1

Surely there is still hope when it comes to sales leadership, right?

If you've had a kick ass leader - what made your 1:1s so good?

Save the "we talked about our puppies and kids" for later.

I knew what to expect in the 1:1's is what made them so great. We talked about what's going on outside of work first, then we talked about results from last week, then we discussed what the plan is for this week, pace for the quarter, and any specific questions that I had or help that I needed. He never moved our 1:1's or rescheduled.

Same here. The meetings had a defined agenda, were helpful to both my manager and I, and didn't drag on or come full of stupid questions.

It beats the hell out of those pointless pipeline reviews / daily check ins.

its crazy how much of an impact it makes when you leadership does not move your 1 on 1s. ive had leaders who constantly rescheduled or had to shorten our meetings and i found it SO annoying

Yeah I hear that! I had the opposite before… our 1:1 would turn into an hour and a half of complete nonsense.

@Rallier I love this. Are you still under the same leadership?

Same here. Always some good banter involved towards the end, too.

knowing what my boss wanted to know is helpful.
Having space for me to bring up issues with opps and actually receive  helpful feedback is always huge.

I want to leave a 1 on 1 knowing I am going to be better off than I was before the meeting.

When its more about collaborating and less about me giving him/her basic info on opps and deal size, the better

The collaboration is key. That’s what makes the 1:1 great for me. Quick run down of opps and digging into those where she can help formulate a strategy or approach has made the 1:1 really beneficial.

Best manager I had. He actually came prepared for 1:1. It felt like my quota was a true collaboration, he scanned over accounts - provided an action plan for one account and where he could assist. Let me provide feedback, then did the same on my own action plans.

?? Not sure if you’re serious or not, but if your manager has to use 1:1 time to tell you to update the CRM, you’re failing as a sales rep. That time should be used in telling your manager what you need from the org to move your deals forward &/or collaborate on deal strategies.

the best 1:1's are the ones that only happen when they are necessary and aren't forced. If I'm having a bad month - yeah lets sit down and look at my pipeline, review some calls, see what could potentially be brought back from the dead, etc.

But if I'm crushing it what's the point? You're just taking time away from me being able to continue to kill it and make money. Let's keep it brief, we can over my forecast for the remainder of the month/quarter/whatever, then both get on with our days.

Know what you both want to cover. Have a plan together to go over either specific details or an overall goal(s) of what you want to accomplish.
Often times I've seen it said that a 1:1 should be led by the rep, but you can only do so if you and your manager have come up with a framework for what standards you need to cover as well.

I had a manager where in our 1:1s we didnt talk about work, one time we rewatched all of chris farleys best hits on SNL and it was wonderful. I'm still friends with him to this day
