Has anyone transitioned from selling in NA to APAC?

would love to hear experiences, how you made the transition, was it an internal move, and what the compensation scale is like?

I have extended family in APAC overseas and honestly, think I'd want to at least try doing sales elsewhere in the world as I've been in my city my whole life. feeling like I want to try a change of pace.

I sold into APAC while located on the East Coast America. Nothing changed, except my sleep deprivation.

I sold to APAC whilst being in UK - I found that speaking the local language helps a ton - APAC buys very differently to US and EU.

If you speak local language and understand cultural nuance - you’ll rock.

If you don’t - then probably not

A lot of countries do not sell like the US. I've worked with a few clients within EMEA and APAC and it takes a lot of emotional intelligence and cultural research/company research to know the best sales tactics. I found this communication infograph a while ago - can't say how accurate it is across all countries but interesting nonetheless.

The picture came out so tiny! I'm curious to see it.

Can you let me know the title/search terms so I can find it myself?

I searched "communication patterns around the world" and found a business insider link at the top of google.

I think they're all meant to be taken with a grain of salt but still very interesting! Things to consider with global clients.

Had a manager who did that for a few years. He loved it and it gave him a unique experience for sure. If you want to and have the means to I say go for it. Sales is sales wherever you are.

From an APAC seller- APAC acts on relationship. They got to like you to want to do business with you. Show effort on cultural norms (and there’s so many for different countries) and get that first foot in the door.

TL;DR: Lot's of need for local partners or reps in APAC.
varies tons man as APAC Covers like a third of the world.

Let me split the territory up for you
APAC - Anywhere from India through to Fiji

ANZ - Australia and New Zealand - Biggest market for western reps, all speak english, Australia is the bigger market. Timeline's here are slower
All three territories below need either a local partner or rep to work the region, business requires you to have a local presence/expertise.

SEA - South east asia: Singapore can be included here, but sometimes is seperated, this is usually the HQ location for companies expanding into APAC focused on the asian market. Decent contract sized here.

Japan and Korea: Both hyper specialised markets, local team and local presence for both

India/North Asia: Potentially lucrative, lived and sold in india for 6 months, needs a lot of work, not a passive set of countries to work.
China, hong kong and taiwan: Need mandarin/cantonese for here, local partner or presence.
