Head of sales -> SDR

So ive shared that i took a head of sales role about a month ago.


i am a team of one right now.


A huge part of my role is to learn. Learn the best discovery questions, learn the best way to position our product in the market. learn how the midmarket customers buy, and what they care about.


And alot of that is going to come from making good ol fashioned cold calls to targeted prospects. Key is to set meetings of course, but also understand how the react to our messaging and what objections they come at me with.


Its kinda crazy the whole team really has their eyes on why i can uncover so I really hope I dont fail. ๐Ÿคฃ


Im surprised at how nervous I am to really hit the phones. its been a few months since ive done that with any sort of regularity.


Scripts created, cadence set, email templates created. All thats left is to start dialing.


and well thats why im making this post because Im procrastinating ๐Ÿคฃ

hahah its a bit more complicated than that.

The short version was in 2020 the team was operating under 1 specific strategy. That strategy failed. they didnt fire anyone but everyone quit. (including me).

Over the next year they completely changed the strategy and needed a person to lead the sales efforts under this new strategy. thats when they reached out to me and i rejoined.

I moved pretty slow since i was trying to take a bunch of notes and make sure my tracking system was working so i dont F my self by the end of next week with a ton of shit data ๐Ÿคฃ

I too am team of one. In it for 5 weeks. Scripting, stacking, hunting.. a whole lot of shit going on that nobody else even understands. Biggest title I've ever owned, smallest company I've ever worked for. Most brilliant solution I've ever seen. But none of that really matters. Brotherman, we take these shots because we ain't skirred to bet on our own talent. Go do it.

and... yeah.. nothing happens til you're in it. Pick up the damn phone.

my favorite thing so far is that the CSMs had been tasked with contacting some of these leads (since they signed up but never used the product)

and everyone said "no one answers the phone!" i made 18 dials and had 6 conversations and set 4 meetings. this was a nice win for me haha

I would schedule some user interviews with your current large/mid sized customers and ask questions about the product, onboarding experience, pricing and overall service experience. You can get some key details on not only what you're doing well but also what your competitors are telling these clients.
