How do you know you have reached the dark space ?

as some one who has been a front runner all the time and now not cutting it all , as you age you start to hate your space and you know more knowledge of what fails so you are too cautious..

when do you know you have reached a dark space ?

It has been a long time since I have stopped to think of the negativity holding me down. However, when this does happen, I find that what tends to happen is that I am spread too thin.

I start with cutting out the unnecessary things/actions/people/etc that waste my time or pull me down. The only thing that I want from a negative person is distance.

Then I shock my mind with some quick wins like short books to read or listening to a podcast. I find that is my way of correction.

You could be burned out friend. Seriously take some time off to recalibrate.

most people dont realize it until they are past it.

some people can tell when they start experiencing depression symptoms.

For me it was when a company i was working at got acquired.
I wasn't fulfilled, leads stoped coming in, outbound was super draining, i felt like my skills were not improving, we had no direction, no purpose no future.

THAT was not a fun time.

A major sign can be lack of joy from activities that normally provide it.

I hope you're doing okay.

I'm lucky to have a wife who helps me frame my frustrations, before that it was a best friend/roommate and porch bowls and beers. Find someone or somewhere to vent - allow for everything you're feeling to be said out loud and then work through each step.

Going down the rabbit hole of questions like: what's the worst that can happen? how likely is that the result? what can I truly do about it now? is it even still in my control? and should I be doing something completely different?

By the end of it, you'll have a cathartic release, a forecast of possibilities, and a plan for what you can affect now and where you need to go for support.

Happens to me about once a month, nature of our sales lives plus supporting and raising a family. I always feel so much better after hitting this release spot and looking constructively towards the future

I haven't been in truly dark places, but I do notice I start to feel overwhelmed when I get stressed, and then get to a point where doing anything is difficult.

That tells me that it's time to first take a break, then tackle the things I can control one small thing at a time.

However, this is something that works for me, I am not a therapist, so take my advice with a grain of salt, as it is for short term stressors.

Many have recommended therapy on an ongoing basis to keep themselves healthy.

This question resonates with me. I think you know you are that space when you find yourself prone to self destruct. You may not even realize that you are self destructing until someone whom you know is impartial points it out. You generally don’t see it until too many things get broken for it to be a coincidence. Take time to inventory your life and look for patterns and talk to somebody. I am crawling out of one right now the depths of which are almost unbelievable. If you find yourself doing things that in hindsight you wouldn’t be ok with if someone else where doing, you are probably there.

I've found that a week off-grid helps to get out of a dark place quite well. Leave your laptop at home, switch off your phone and go into nature. take a hike. After that came back locked and loaded.
