How much do you like your industry?

I'm traveling home from another big conference and, like always, I get to rub shoulders with many other companies in my industry. We are heavily involved in the hospitality industry and franchisors/franchisees. From this convention it has raised more frustrations on our team after we saw and learned a few things from key notes.

Labor costs are up.
Capital costs are up.
Margins are being squeezed.
Budgets are tight. but it's 'aight!

As I'm musing on the last week, I do like my industry, but just a bit less as I sit here waiting for my plane with a rum and coke in my hand.

How are you guys feeling? the grass is always greener but many fields are different grass!

We unfortunately lost some of the biggest clients due to budget freeze, headcount being dropped etc etc but on the other hand we are also getting a lot of traction from Enterprise companies. Our product is being used by multiple depts within an org!

Enjoy your glass 🥂

My husband is in the hospitality industry so I can relate to the challenges (he owns a pretty large restaurant chain-- among other businesses). The pandemic was a big challenge for restaurants as you are probably well aware. The margins are thin so you (business owners) need to be very smart on your costs. Maybe I'm oversharing but he wouldn't have significant profits if it wasn't for the fact that he also owns the real estate. The real estate is the moneymaker. Why did I share all of this? It's a very tough industry to be sure. Business owners need to find alternate sources or revenue in order to thrive in this vertical.

Regarding MY industry, I am in commercial insurance and I love what I do. I primarily call on CFOs and really enjoy helping organizations make the most of their operating dollars as well as helping them to mitigate risk/s.

I love Healthcare because of the fact that it will always be important and I genuinely get to make a difference in patients/providers lives. That being said, there is also a healthy disdain for what can only be considered an extremely broken system

Not as good as someone would expect it,it's still not like my salary was cut but inflation rates just went loco.
Things are tough even globally tbh, economy is volatile especially after the SVB crisis and here in Egypt it ain't perfect as well particularly after our neighbor Sudan went to a Civil War!
Hope things to get better soon.

HVAC, It’s extremely challenging but also fun and satisfying when those wins come in. Some days are extra challenging though. Lol.

We sell into any enterprise, so we get to talk to a wide variety of verticals. If we were a larger company, maybe we’d have vertical specialists, but we aren’t, so we all have diverse accounts.

What I’m doing now is 100% just for the money. I don’t love it because I’m not particularly making a difference in anyone’s life. That being said, it’s paying enough to support my family and let me build up a side project that would legit help people and has the potential to make more money than I ever dreamed of. Can’t give any details because it would give it all away, it’s very early stages and will be a lot of money in before we can even launch, but I have high hopes.

I think this is an extremely healthy attitude.

I’m fintech and love it. Costs are up and margins are squeezed, but it’s a volume play. Just need to get everyone onboard and working and as long as MC < MR, we can make it out in the end. Just survive and you will win.

Another +1 in healthcare, first 10 years in hospital management and administration. Since the turn of the century been working in new and emerging technology in healthcare. When the market hits general acceptance for that technology, time for me to find a new technology to work in.

Love my industry but it's super niche which makes it hard to lead source...retail tech but solely focused on more the inv mgmt/POS/automation side as opposed to customer experience and loyalty
