How to getting into salesforce with no experience in Sales but 2.5 years of experience as a product owner.

I have no experience working for a sales team in any capacity but I have experience as a business analyst/product manager at a Saas Enterprise Risk Management company. I want to get into salesforce in Canada as an SDR. Where should I look at and what must I do to stand out from others to increase my chances of landing an interview. Btw I live in Toronto.

Positives:
- You know SaaS
- You know how Enterprises work
- You understand Risk
- *You are absolutely clear about what you want

Negatives:
- You don't know a lot about Sales/SDR
- You don't have experience in Sales/SDR

Action Items:
- Learn about SaaS Sales (neutralize the 1st negative). You're at the right place. Take a look at the left-hand side (Academy), the feed, and the search bar. Immense content embedded in all these places

- Salesforce (as far as I know) is ok with hiring candidates from different backgrounds, especially for an SDR role. Ace the basics - cold calling / emails / copywriting. Move to read about social selling/ video prospecting/personalization. Familiarise yourself with some tech-stack (especially Salesforce).

- SF's trailblazer forum is also a good starting point.

All the best @abupapi. Do let us knowiฬถfฬถ when you get into Salesforce. Welcome to the War Room!

@Gasty

Thank you so much. I have applied to Salesforce through the referral of a BDR at SF. I am awaiting the 2nd most crucial decision of my life which will decide my trajectory.

Hi @bandabanda

I would appreciate the help, I already messaged about 15 Sales recruiters at SFDC. While applying through the referral of a current BDR at SF, I also got in touch with an SF director who came to the hotel I worked at. He liked me I guess and gave me his work email. I messaged him on LinkedIn and he asked me for the JR number of the job I applied to. I am not gonna get too excited. But I would appreciate any additional help that I can get.

The only regret I have is not discovering this community much earlier. You guys have been so helpful. I wish everyone gets to smash their quotas and take the bag home.

I did message a few people on LinkedIn, only one got back. He suggested that I find the people who post the jobs so he can reach out to them internally. But unfortunately for me, salesforce does not show who posted the job postings. So a slight dead end there. But there must be other ways to find them.

I reached out to people at salesforce before as well as amazon, there are dozens of managers. Check out my hiring posts i have templates there. I sent out about 50 to amazon and got a few warm intros and people willing to push my resume through once I applied. Dont stop with a few thats a massive company. Managers want to
Look good that they brought in great talent and didnt need no recruiter and its impressive and shows job fit

I live in Toronto; I know I must find jobs I like. But I feel like you have some experience in this than I do. Where else do you suggest I look? Amazon sounds great.

Why SDR? And why Salesforce?
I would think that if you want to get into sales, trying for a lateral move in your current company would be best.

Good culture from what I have seen online. I still don't know much about the product itself. I am planning to do a salesforce certification to gain knowledge of what the product is using Trailhead.

I work at a hotel now. I am an international student in Canada. They are removing the part time rule for students. So I can work fulltime. So I'm gonna do something valuable with this opportunity. Salesforce has a branch in downtown Toronto right next to where I work. Should I just walk in?

Got it, I am not sure how much you earn but based on what you have researched on the SDRs salary if you think you will be happy, please move ahead. Apart from applying also build connections and try to hop on a chat with them. Helps answer a lot of questions you might have in mind.

I wouldnโ€™t pigeonhole yourself with only wanting one company, but if you want to be successful in the interview process, reach out to current sdrs at the company and ask for advice

Goodluck my friend. I have direct family in sales at Salesforce and close family friends who personally wrote to the hiring managers (who they were also friends with) to vouch for me, coming from B2B SAAS sales with consistent quota attainment.

Didnt even get a first interview.
