How to stay dedicated to your prospecting while in line for promotion?

Its looking like I'm in a good spot for a promotion that would give me an entirely new territory, but my current pipeline is in the gutter and our sales cycle in about 3 months long, so any new Opps I generate now would likely be given to another rep to close. I'm having a hard time motivating myself to do the leg work for someone else, but at the same time I know my efforts will not go unnoticed and will help the promo move along. Not really sure what I'm looking for here, but any advice on navigating this predicament?

I'm sure whoever takes your territory will be grateful for what you do to set them up for success.

Anytime you change territories or jobs, you inherently will get projects handed on a silver platter you did nothing on, as well as lose credit for jobs you did 90% of the work on. This is the way my friend.

Keep working. As any rep will tell you, the deal is not done until the contract is in, so keep growing your territory. Whoever is in the territory you'll presumably be heading to should also be working - and you'd be the beneficiary of that effort. If everyone in your company stopped trying because they thought their efforts might help someone else, that would be really bad for the company as a whole and each of you as well. Not everything you do at your job (or in life) will be for your direct benefit; keeping your company afloat and thriving is important, as that keeps the lights on and the paychecks flowing.

There's a few ways to look at this, IMO.

First, keep doing your job until you get promoted. It you coast or slow down, that may cause some skepticism.

Secondly, it's good for the team culture, for the person taking over your territory, and generally will reflect well on you. People remember this type of stuff and it will come back around eventually.

Regardless, it's in your best interest to keep generating pipeline. Even if you don't close the deals, it's the right thing to do. If you want to view it in a patrick bateman style, the work you're putting forward will help you gain "social capital"

You need to demonstrate youโ€™re worth the promotion. Keep working.

Also, if you leave your successor nada, word will get around. Not good for the reputation.

To expect good, do good.
Working hard on the pipeline currently even if you'r only have few days to get promoted will certainly have a very positive impact on the next one and that's how you'll be remembered.
And just need you to expect a gratitude in the future for a similar situation perhaps when another promotion for you comes up.
Even at the worst situations you were not selected the numbers you made would be still actually your numbers, so make sure to do your best at em at any time unfortunately you may retrieve em back.
Best of luck to you and wish to hear a good news about it soon.

Good spot doesnโ€™t guarantee. I will still work hard and keep doing what I am doing if things change or move in another directions, you will thank yourself.

Not for nothing, the promotion could always not happen and then your without pipeline and without a chance at the next promotion when your numbers are low. Unfortunately, fear is a great motivator.

Think of the poor savage following in your footsteps. Also it would suck even more if you dont get the promotion and your pipe is fucked.

"likely given" is not a strategy to build on... confirm and make the case that what you start you should finish and be compensated for and then get to work!

When you have your LinkedIn account set to "open to work" and recruiters reach out all the time do you take the mindset of "I need to sell myself for this role" OR "The recruiter needs to sell the role to myself?"
