I went to Gitex Dubai and promised (in my previous post) to give my opinion.

Hi Savages,

I asked if anyone went to Gitex Dubai before in a previous post. And promised @KB_FarmerType to give feedback.

You guys were right (@SalesPharaoh) the fair is to big for it's own good, as are a lot of things in Dubai. It was quite a challenge finding all prospects I had on my list. However, by roaming around I also found some that I missed. One of the tips I got was get good shoes and yes that was crucial as well. I walked over 20k steps each day.

In short Dubai is a fun place to be if you can spend some money. Gitex is a great place to be if you sell into software/tech companies. I spoke about 5 weeks worth of prospects in 1 week.

If anybody has any questions about it, shoot!

I guess it makes some sense that SDRs would go, but it just seems strange to me. In my experience it's usually been more senior people that can actually talk about the product.

yeah, we had our SDR screen all companies and make a list of who we needed to visit. I liked that strategy. On th eother hand during the fair, you do not have in dept discussions. Most are short convo exchanging cards and setting up a meeting afterward.

I totally agree thatโ€™s the goal, but at more technical conferences I find people always get to pull you into the weeds. Itโ€™s important to stick handle that a bit so you donโ€™t get too deep, but I find you usually need to give them SOMETHING.

I do really like the idea of SDRs doing the legwork beforehand..

You think you will have time to dive into the product but in reality the conversations you will have will be as deep as what an SDR knows about the product...enough to conduct said conversation and qualify on their best judgement.

Of course, i think AE must go to conferences but the more niche ones.

Damn thatโ€™s way to long. A friend of mine did 3 trips to Japan in 2weeks time from Belgium. Each time he did not know he would need to go back. Man he suffered. In the end he was happy since it was for a few billion dollar M&A deal

Yes, Gitex can be overwhelming if you are not well prepared. It is very generic and not targeted at anything in particular. I have the impression I walked from Dubai to Abu Dhabi and back that week and my legs still hurt :-)I am a regular to GITEX every year. Some advice :- Plan in advance the companies and stands you want to visit- Sort them by Hall to optimise your walking time in the crowd- Check on the app for people. For every exhibitor, they list names and positions of people supposed to be on the stand. It helps you get access inside the booths- Lots of companies have a mini booth on another company stand (e.g. Zscaler was on AWS stand)- While the halls are somehow organised by theme, you will find some gems in the country pavilions. E.g. a cybersecurity startup will not be in the cybersecurity hall, but on the France or India country pavilion because it is cheaper for them to attend

When a new company that just hired you performs a background check on previous job roles, do they know if you got fired? Or the extent of it? Or they just check to make sure you worked the dates you say you worked?

Recently got an offer for a company lower than I was expecting, however I said yes (I havenโ€™t started yet). Another company made me a much higher offer- both companies are great. Is it bad to leave the one I said โ€œyesโ€ to?
