I work a commission-based role for a digital marketing agency as an SDR (selling web design/development and digital marketing/CEO services), they suggest that I reach out to CEOs, founders and owners of small businesses, but this hasn't been working...(con)

...do I go straight for leaders in the digital marketing department/IT departments? Going directly to the CEOs and founders doesn't make much sense to me.

Also, any tips for how to find prospects for this? I can go for any industry, and right now I've just been spamming emails at small-medium sized-business owners, CEO's, etc., randomly.

My company didn't really give me many tips so I was looking for some help on here. This job is really just practice for me so I don't mind asking for some help.

SEO services is what you’re selling. They’re right. In SMB you’re only going to get budget from the top. And until you can get your head around the type of result you’re selling nobody’s going to listen. Quit the random.

Find the success stories your company has created. Then target businesses is the same vertical. Then drill it down.

“I noticed X. We do Y. It generated Z for them.”

Are there other SDRs there who have been there a while? If they can share some of their basics, that could help you get out of spray & pray.

oldcloser is right, too. You need a reason that they should connect with you. Metrics, success, anything along those lines will be good.

No there aren't any, the team is really new and they just recently hired a bunch of SDRs, so everyone is kinda starting from scratch

Do you at least have a knowledgeable sales manager to give you some coaching?

And Foxy has it dead right - those are the questions every single one of your outbound efforts need to answer.

That was my entry sales job when I started my sales career and it didn't last for more than 2 weeks.
SEO, Google adowrds, etc are being done globally in an enormous way, some of em are legit but many are not!
I totally suggest a different spot,so feel free to check Bravado jobs using the search bar, Li, Indeed and others for relevant SDR/BDR roles and make sure to expand your network for better offers.
And finally recommend you to check the {Who's hiring category} posted regularly by Gasty and wish you much of luck!
