In public sector sales and things are looking ropey

So I joined a new business about a year ago when things looked much better coming out of lockdown etc. Now the company is looking to focus on profitability and hasn't got the appetite to stick with building a public sector. ( We have no data centre in the UK which will hold us back)

Been offered a 50/50 split public & private clients, but I'm thinking of looking externally as this could be a slippery slope. I have a few years at blue chip saas company and never worked a pre-IPO

Grind it out or take a chance elsewhere ?

They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
I know that In selling SaaS to US based public sector groups, if their data is going to leave the country, that’s a deal killer. A previous company I was with had to contract with a Canadian data center just to win some Canadian business even though we had a rock start solution in the US (multiple data centers, geographically separate, etc).

So if you don’t house the data in-country, it’s not worth sticking it out.

it does not hurt to do both.

take some calls, do some research, and also grind it out at the current place.

this way you protect yourself both ways.

It wouldn't hurt to start looking. I'd be uncertain too.

Public sector will be a really hard sell with no in-country infrastructure. I'd be looking.

OP update. The 50:50 wasn’t a realistic offer, they want to shift to a cover another patch as well as central Gov but still in Public Sector, feels ropey AF and will put some lines out there. Thanks team!

Public sector seller in EMEA. Data centres can be messy in EMEA as UK is no longer in the EU. May be country specific. 30+ countries in Europe.

2cents on UK Public Sector sales - slow but once you get in it’s hard to get rid of you and always pay their bills
