Intent Data - What are you missing?

We're clearly inundated with tons of so-called next gen intent data players. That said, it's becoming clear that they are all selling very similar capabilities: account-level insights coming from the same source (cookies and anonymous account/domain sniffing).

Although direction-ally helpful, I cant help but think there's more that can be done here.

If you're using this data now, what is working for you? Are their disconnects from the promise of your vendors capabilities? How do you put this data to use? Is Marketing the tail wagging the dog in most cases?

If you aren't using this data, why not?

As always, thx for your feedback and brutal honesty. ;)

Are you asking for a recommendation for an intent tool or are you fishing for user stories and product market fit validation?

Yes hi hello I would like to know as well before I answer.

A little bit of both honestly. I'd prefer to not make mistakes others have already made. Simultaneously, I'm having a hard time believing that simple account related info is going to help my sellers.

Ok let’s make this more plain: do you sell an intent tool/plan to build one?

Ahhhhh yes! Intent data, the panacea for all rev ops types. Wouldn’t we all like to know when our ICPs are actively in-market for our solution, and to be able to pick them off with a slingshot the minute they take out their signed PO??!!

At best, it’s flawed in its execution. At worst, it’s a fantasy that sucked up budget for real solutions that solve real problems.

Love to hate intent data. Nice when it's picking up "intent" from competitors - yeah, they're looking at the site, but not to buy.

I suppose that's easy to filter against though if you simply suppressed your competitor domains. right?

Sure. But intent data is rife with this kind of thing.

And we all know what’s been said about good intentions (and the road to hell!)

Hahaha. It's hard to believe that it's all vapor. There's hundreds of millions of dollars spent on this stuff...clearly not everyone is getting bs'd...are they?

It's clearly not a panacea either...just trying to sort out where the middle resides.

I've used 6sense and it demos well but falls flat once implemented

Ah. What part specifically? All of 6sense or their intent capabilities? something else?

The data will become comoditised and the lowest price will determine the survivor.

I suppose that is true if the data sources are the same. Bombora has basically comomoditized themselves by offering the exact same signals to everyone and stiched their signals into most of the leading ABM/ABX platforms (6sense, Terminus, Demandbase, etc.)

What if the sources were coming from somewhere more specific? I suppose the volume would be less but the quality could be quite improved.

I don't think anyone is there yet, 6Sense, ZoomInfo (WebSights & Intent tools), Sales Nav - they're not strong enough to gauge actual interest.

I suspect it's because most of this is missing actual buyer transparency.

They also have zero transparency into their black box of what values or actions are driving the score to change. It's basically blind faith.

There is no intent until you meet the prospect. The only real intent is during the meet. Ok, you can get trigger to action i.e. call, someone is clicking, opening, entering etc. But up until the meet it's just a fugazi.

Intent data solutions are not game-changers by any means. Yes, there will be some deals you win with it that you can trace back to the solution. However, there are so many other deals where it never had an impact. If you're paying for something that's preached as an immediate ROI contributor... it has to hit all the marks.
