Is this a dead end?

I'm currently working for a SaaS company and have climbed the ranks from SDR to SE/AE roles. Commission structure is solid, I'm hitting 140% + a month and it's 100% remote.

However, I don't see any type of senior role offered at the company.

Would you start looking for a workplace that would allow higher level sales? I realized within the org I'm at, I'm closing like crazy and looked upon as a star. Yet, if I want to grow and really get into a high level sales role, this is all small peanuts. $100k a year is good, $200k a year sounds better =D

So you're closing $100K and not making $100K?

If you've got good results and don't see a path upwards, then look to something else with larger, more complex deal sizes and a higher quota. But be picky.

Not to play devils advocate and be annoying. The grass is always greener elsewhere. If you are closing like crazy at the current org and a top performer you should probably make your intentions of growing within the company known, team lead role and such. While more complex deals can certainly earn $$$ it is never a given and more complexity means more meetings, more competitors, longer deal cycles and higher stress, all things you may be fine with dealing with but certainly worth thinking about.

The problem is that $100K in sales annually will seriously limit your earning potential.

yes and agreed, I guess more so I'm suggesting finding a place that is transactional but higher volume to maximize earning potential

I look at it this way - if you're earning the company $100K, that's going to curtail your ability to earn that or more than that.
If you're earning the company $1M/year, then your salary should go up quite a bit.
My other concern with a $100K/year acquisition rate is the longevity of the company. That's not a lot of runway to continue to pay staff, reinvest in tech, and support what you have, in my experience.

Exactly, 100k total ACV will be a limit to base growth for sure..

I love this input, thank you! I couldn't agree more.. and, as a cherry on top, it really is a great place to work.

If you don’t see a career path then you probably need to move out in order to move up.

But is your problem title or money?

I could really care less about the title. Obviously more money is always great, but my main focus is I'd like to be closing higher level deals. I maybe close $100k a year in revenue and I don't see any position in the company that is closing more than that.

Then it sounds like you’ve hit the ceiling and probably need to take your experience and success elsewhere.

So keep crushing your quota, and keep your ear to the ground for opportunities. You’ve got a pretty good situation, so you can be patient while you look for your next opportunity. Imagine the role you want, and find it. Don’t just quit or start dumping resumes everywhere. Pick your shot.

140 percent a month? And remote. You are golden. Time to see the forest for the trees

How many years have you been in your current org? What industry is it?

2.5 years give or take.

SaaS within the transportation industry.

Also, killing these deals Pirate! I just took a look at your profile, I need to get somewhere where a $20k deal like yours in January is on the table.

I would previously have recommended to jump the ship but the job market in Europe at least is very difficult. I feel like if you're doing well, keep grinding there but maybe take up a degree or a course in an industry you want to be in.
Thanks! 😁 Appreciate it, but then my quota this year is at 1M. So 20k is hard work at the moment and doesn't get me anywhere. Commission on deals if you don't hit is something like 2%. I've been building things up from scratch for the past year but it's not easy

Have you asked your CRO/VP of sales if there is a plan to move up the market? If you're a top salesperson and see an opportunity, ask. They may not know that you want more of a challenge.

You have to advocate for yourself. You could ask for a raise too. The risk of losing a top salesperson is greater than just paying you more.

But let's also be real: Just because you're making $100k+ now doesn't mean you'll make $100k+ at the next place.

I’m confused. Do you close 100k a year in revenue, or make a 100k?

$100k in revenue, wanting to really bump that number up via more complex deals.

Per year or per quarter? If it’s per year you should definitely be looking into other places because your income will be massively limited if 100k in revenue is killing it.

my exact thoughts. Don't get me wrong, I'm content with what I'm making, I just feel like I have the skill set to hit that next level. Or at least the drive to do what I have to to get there.

If you find something good why not give it a try. But why you think there is no growth in the current company? Are you guys only doing smb?

Seems like you hit the ceiling, keep killing it, but look outward and start digging into new roles. Biggest raise you’ll ever get is the one from jumping ship for a better opportunity

I would say the pay is low and pushing the boundaries and not in a good way. With that said, you are liked and doing well. You need to try to stay put while creating a new position for yourself that gives you more earning. What else can you do at the company that could pay more? i.e. where is the next need at the company's growth stage? With your success you have leverage and you should get into several career discussions internally. The role is not there today, but it may be tomorrow with some discussion, digging and corporate awareness from you.
