job offer deadline while interviewing elsewhere

Just got an offer yesterday from my #2 choice in my job search with a deadline to sign for EOD Friday (said they wouldn't be willing to extend it longer). I asked for longer than their "standard" 2-day deadline and they "extended" it for 3 days

I'm interviewing with a few other companies and have one role I'd prefer over the one I've already received the offer from. I still have a final interview for early next week and will have the decision by Tuesday or Wednesday at the earliest.

Not sure if I should call the first company's bluff and ask for more time to decide or just sign it and burn a bridge if I get the other role. The role I want is 30k higher base and 50k higher OTE.

Few other threads on this recently. TL;DR: accept and rescind if a better offer comes along. Happens way more often than you think.

I have to agree with this. Do what's best for you.

My main question is, do you want to work for the company that offered you the role? Do you see them as a long term fit?

I would call and ask for an extension, if they are difficult it might be worth accepting than declining if you get the other offer.

It really happens all the time where you accept a role, tell your employer then they make a counter offer, then reject the offer from the company you were interviewing at.

yes, I'd be happy with the role/company I've been offered. thanks for the color. I have a call to touch base with the HR person at the second company, do you think it's worth mentioning my offer/ask if we can expedite things because of it?

I guess it wouldn't matter if I expect to receive the decision by next week anyways - I could just rescind as you all are suggesting

Absolutely tell the company you are interviewing at about the other offer, it should give you clarity on if you are likely to get the offer or not. Since they might let you walk if you aren't a top contender, or they expediate it since they want you on the team.

At a minimum they should tell you quicker after the final round

Like @poweredbycaffeinesaid. Accept the offer and rescind if #1 pulls through.

Accept the offer, and run the risk of burning the bridge. The upside of your other role justifies it and then some.

Nothing is a lock in this life, but it does seem like your almost there in the other role.

good luck champ.

Take the job in hand now and just know you can back out at any time. There's no shackles on you which say you have to stay with your #2 choice forever.

Donโ€™t be afraid to be selfish in a business decision. Theyโ€™d resend their offer if something bad happened or changed and theyโ€™ll still have their second choices phone number.

To me, definitely I would ask for more time and try make up whatever urgent reason on the table to get that expansion approved!

Best of luck.

yeah IMO, there is enough upside here to take this job offer, and if you get THE offer, just quit.

no harm in that. gotta protect your self.
