Jump ship?

What're y'all's thoughts on sticking out rough patches in a start up? Any dead stop red flags?

I really love my company - pays good, full autonomy, but the red flags are becoming overwhelming.

The ships been rocky since I came onboard, but I'm uncharacteristically hesitant to move on.

What're your final straws? Worst cases leaving too late?

depends if youre selling the product and making good commission. If its better than anywhere else you can get then id say stick it out. If you're not selling it and theyre toxic quit

If a startup isn't doubling revenue every year (at least) it's a red flag

There are always learning curves in a start up of any kind, but if it pays well and it's not a complete train wreck then stick with it for as long a you can, but don't stop prospecting for new employment. Good hunting.

rocky ships - strong word. Why you say that? Why you still want to sail there where you know it's not sailing smooth?

If you have to ask...

But really, start to put feelers out other places. It won't hurt.

Here's the biggest red flag: What does revenue look like? What does spend look like? Is that sustainable? Is there even product-market fit or are they floundering?

Bring the red flags up with management.
If they intend to fix the issues, find out who will do what and by when - if they keep their word then great. If they don't keep their word then I like to ask management the following question:

We talked "X weeks" ago, you said "Y" action would be taken by "Mr. Z" to solve "problem A". This hasn't happened. If you were in my shoes what would you do next?

It will quickly become apparent if they are committed to improving things. If they aren't then I'm looking for a new job.

Start up = potential. Go above and beyond your call of duty and make yourself stand out as an unequivocal backbone of the company. This will give you even more autonomy, while also give you the ability to jump to leadership to pad your resume (and higher pay) much faster. Be someone they depend on, and make yourself as irreplaceable as possible. Doing this will not only give you a great letter of recommendation if the ship sinks, but in the event it doesn't sink, it shows your commitment to the company through thick and thin. Lastly, if immense autonomy is given to anyone in a starting position, then the major red flag is leadership... which you as a savage in the WR have the unique opportunity to change that flag from red to green.
