Keeping spirits high between jobs

Welp, yours truly just lost his job. While I am planning on being thorough in my upcoming search for what comes next, that's not all there is to everything.

What I want to know is the "how to keep spirits high in the meantime". There's no way around it: this sucks. That being said, there's ways to mitigate how bad it will be and feel it will be helpful for others in the same boat.

At least it's the first of the month so I have healthcare until the end of Feb

Damn bb I am so sorry. I ain't gonna lie, it's gonna hurt a min. Let yourself hurt a min. Feel it. Embrace it. Then tell it to fuck off and start your job searching cadence. Crush it. Land that better job with more pay. Do a hair flip and middle finger to the past. ❤🦊

Appreciate you. I'm pretty sure I'm still in shock over the whole thing and I will need some downtime beyond the obvious paperwork/odds and ends to resolve.

Sorry to hear that. It’s tough.

My advice, having been there before, is:
1- file for unemployment now. Don’t wait.
2- establish a schedule for job hunting. A couple hours in the AM, a couple in the PM
3- work on yourself - workout, read some books you enjoy put off, etc. No TV/binge watching.
4- reach out to your network the best you can. Personalized messages for assistance are much better than generic LI pleas for help.
5- since you have the time, put a little extra effort into each job application. Reach out to DM/HM, write a cover letter, etc.

Appreciate you. Made sure I filed before I made this thread.
Right now I'm focusing on the others. Have a good idea on 2/3 and honing in a bit more with 4 and 5. I have enough of a good work history where I have my network and do not wish to resort to a LI post before I talk to those around me.

1. File for unemployment, like Pachacuti said.
2. Make a list of to do's (could be home stuff, fun stuff, projects you've put off), space them out across days, weeks, get them done (so you've always got something to do).
3. Go to the gym, set a goal, get to achieving it (this'll do wonders for your mental health too).
4. Travel. Go camping, see a new city or visit friends/family. It's not often you get to do this guilt free, so take advantage. 5. Take a good hard look at the last company, what did you learn? Write it down. Write down mistakes, successes, etc. Think about those a bit, write down what you learned and plan to go to the next job better than when you left this one.

Thank you, filed before thread because that is priority uno.
For the to-do's, still working on some of the longer term stuff however getting to the gym is something that will be vital for me.
I do have some travel to look forward to already which will be nice for the psyche.
5 is a really good point given the situation, there were a lot of major issues that played out since I started. I even got an official "you are eligible for rehire" for what little it's worth.

Sorry to hear this. Went through the same thing earlier this month and a few things I did to keep high spirits:
1. Keep a structured routine. I made sure not too sleep in too much and do shit I would normally do on a vacation (don’t treat this as a vacation, besides a couple days)
2. Do productive stuff you normally wouldn’t have time to do (think reading, deep cleaning, listen to podcasts etc.)
3. Use it to build habits that you can take once you get settled in at your next role (Daily exercise, Meditation, etc.)

I’m really not trying to sound like a cold plunge guru here 😂 just sharing what I did that kept me busy and motivated

Appreciate the support and that is good advice, I'm adjusting my routine to maintain my own sanity/productivity. Just because I'm out of work doesn't mean I can't be productive. I have a long reading list I've been meaning to tackle.

Just wanted to say I'm so sorry it happened. My layoff was in September..I'm over the shock but out of unemployment money. I think you have a good plan and everyone has given good advice. Of, and the Lavender AI email writing tool is free for people who have been laid off. You just go to their homepage, go to the chatbot, and follow the steps to get it for free. Hang in there and definitely take a well deserved trip.

Damn, I'm sorry and that's rough. Also very good to know about Lavender, I keep seeing people there hyping it up and I've been curious about it.
We'll both get through this.

Sorry to hear about the layoff. Take care of yourself. Avoid the booze route. Stay positive and do what makes you happy!
Enjoy the time off if you can we rarely get breaks from the grind from 25-55 year range so stop and smell the roses.
When ready treat the job hunt like a 9-5!
Network, network, network!
Good luck out there and you will find somewhere great!

Appreciate you on that, agree entirely on the booze since it’s just another expense that brings other expenses and that’s not for right now

Appreciate you and the support, I've been in SaaS more focused logistics/cyber. Took a plunge and went for a FinTech firm which didn't work out. I could wax about their problems however that solves nothing right now.
If push comes to shove, I'd entertain a BDR gig however not looking for a step back if it can be avoided
