Lead Gen via Email- Outlook vs. Tools (outreach/salesloft)

Hello everyone,

Does anyone have any hard data they can share on sending prospecting emails via outlook/gmail versus emailing through tools like Outreach.io or Salesloft? I am specifically looking for data on plain text emails vs HTML formats. I am trying to make an argument our SDR team should be using both and not relying on the tools due to HTML emails with trackers etc. (used by the tools) being caught by firewalls/spam filters etc..

Everything I am finding online is biased and mostly from the tool providers....

Thanx!

Well, do you want your team grey or black listed by google/Microsoft for sending too much cold volume without a warmed up sending domain? Thatโ€™s the major advantage of the outbound platforms and isolated domains.

Could you explain warmed up sending domain?

Domains have to be wrapped in mail server authentication; DMARC and DKIM as a first step. Then, they have to be warmed up over time by sending a low volume with a bunch of different subject lines. PBC can give you best practices for this, I'm thinkin.

Hitting the nail here. Typically youโ€™d set up 2-3 domains and run low volume test campaigns from 1-3 reps. Or you use them for product/platform notifications to one customer. Then when the server sending score is high enough you push more and more volume until it sustains the extent of your needs. Suddenly you have a domain that most email security servers and email providers will view as good to go.

So youโ€™re training a domain/server to basically be accepted and not be put in a spam folder so you can then send dozens of automated emails out that donโ€™t get flagged.

Dude you guys have wild tools lol. This is awesome.

Have them pick up the phone instead of relying on emails

While you're not wrong, the post doesn't indicate people aren't calling. Multi channel is key

Exactly. With that being said I do think itโ€™s best to use both regular email and software tools. I always do personalized through gmail and sequences on outreach. Calling is by far the best method of reaching a prospect

Outreach is my experience is really good, however I felt some of the data was off. I recall 99% of my emails were opened which doesnt seem realistic and I would make sure I didnt open them on my end

Thanks everyone. They are calling a lot... 3 to 1 ratio. The domain is plenty warmed up, so this is not an issue. I just know I have had far more success with customized text emails through outlook than through Outreach or Salesloft. Anytime I see a marketing type email (with the font, colors, HTML format), it goes to trash because there are so dang many these days. If it looks personalized, I will give it 10 seconds instead of 2.... my marketing team keeps sharing content from the tool providers saying "this not the case" and I can't help but think the provider (who is profiting) is a heavily biased source. I like the idea of 1 to 2 custom outlook emails at the start and then moving it to Outreach/Salesloft to have a structured plan for the remaining steps.
It's a tough time to generate leads, so I appreciate all the feedback and advice!

I would not rely on automation tools. I am old school that way, but you have a higher chance of getting blocked with these tools. You have a chance of losing sight of what you are doing. A little manual, a bit of a push from these tools would be great.

Talk to your SDRs about visibility into their accounts. They need visibility at all times. Knowing whatโ€™s happening in their accounts gives them power to prospect better.
