Linkedin Tips

Hey yall,

Looking to up my Linkedin presence, both increasing posts and forming genuine connections in DM's with prospects.

I post maybe once every two or three months tops, and am somewhat averse to posting about sales tactics when I'm not looking to be an influencer but a credible source.

What have people found successful for growing your following community (without being over the top) and also for initial messages once a prospect has connected with you?

Have heard that one way is to of course see if there is any commonality in their profile that you can mention but open to ideas on building trust and interest with prospects!

If you want to gain trust with prospects, then post about industry events/knowledge vs. shilling your product every time. Find out what blogs they read, what influencers they follow on LinkedIn, what podcasts they listen to -- read a blog etc. then post here's my take away from X article - you can occasionally drop a line about your company and how it helps your customers do X thing. Best way to build trust is to be a trusted advisor and know the industry inside and out IMO.

People hate the connection request to quick pitch or meeting ask.

Connect and say I found this article that other (DATA/CIO/CEO/WHATEVER TITLES I WORK WITH) have found helpful. Don't ask for a meeting, warm them up then send a case study or another article and see if they want to debrief, share thoughts, or want to hear best practices.

Agree with both points, the first one I have tried (extremely small sample size to be fair๐Ÿ˜‚) and generated only a few likes but think thats the way to go rather than only promoting company shit.

Second point too, I dont think theres any way to slide into someones dms after connecting and not be glaringly trying to sell them something. Your approach sounds best, its tough when a linkedin message is built into a cadence because I feel like that puts them off to every other source of outreach.

Also maybe its just me but hate calling people that accepted my connection on linkedin๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ would much rather they dont connect and then i call haha

Thanks for connecting can be your first message if you're just going through a cadence, then you can follow up to give value. If they accept your LinkedIn that's a reason to call as you're top of mind / name recognition / person is engaged on linkedin is usually a sign of someone responsive.

1/ Pick a niche
2/ Start posting content about it (the more original and unique, the better)
3/ Keep frequency at least twice a week
4/ Double down on what works
5/ Discard what doesn't
6/ Repeat

ok so the first thing is to NOT message prospects once they connect with you. ppl hate that shit.

You want to interact with people in the comments.

i would suggest sharing your thoughts more on the industry you are involved with rather than being a sales person.

unless you sell to sales ppl?

Agreed sucks when cadence dictates you message them.

Not selling to sales people either so always trying to think of content that could be relevant and interesting to my larger follower community too as likes generate more and more impressions.

Totally not why I do it but I should
probably start posting occassionally when I volunteer with an organization to both promote the org and show im more than just a sales guy

so i have thought about this for years. I am by no means an expert.

but what ive done, is try to think about a few things:
1. what is it about my product that people love when they see a demo? Talk about that function on linked in.

2. what is going on in the sector that your product lives that you can give an opinion on? post about that.

3. who is talking about these things already? COMMENT on those posts. commenting on others posts is a really great way to grow.

4. actively connect with people in the industry even if they are not your buyer. (and dont send them a message when they connect) just know that when they accept the connection LinkedIN pushes your content to them initially.

Definitely stay away from sales tactics unless you're trying to connect with salespeople and sell training or something like that.

Keep it relevant and add value, plus post consistently.

Do you want to post about Sales or about your Industry? Canโ€™t have both.

Best way I know to increase exposure is to โ€œ@โ€œ people in your post.
Like โ€œI listened to โ€œ@personโ€ podcast about X and it was really good. I highly recommend taking a listen.โ€
That way you make a friend and sound smart while not really being that smart in reality ๐Ÿ˜‰
