as someone with ADHD this are BOTH super hard for me.

I constantly struggle with motivation.

and my obsessions can change every 3 weeks or 12 months who knows haha.

i would say that obsession for most ppl can last longer than motivation but it all depends on what we are talking about haha.

Motivation is much healthier. Not necessarily easier but definitely healthier.

There are pros and cons to both. Motivation is needed daily or consistently whereas obsession is more of an all-in type of commitment. Motivation is fleeting and obsession makes us miss other things in life and often clouds perspective or input.

find something that is more of an inspiration with a focus on WHY you are doing what you are doing. What is the end result you are looking for? The process on how to get there changes. Methods change ideologies and values rarely do.

Motivation can be found in various areas.

Do I want to be the best salesperson on the team?
Do I want to take our competitor's business?
Do I want to hit $X in commish for this year or beat last year by X%?

I find that motivation works well for me. It allows for a little celebration when you hit a milestone, and then you can adjust goals for that next peak.

Obsession can be good too, but it can lead to real low points if things don't go your way. It also consumes you at the loss of other things like spending time with family and maintaining your mental health.

If itโ€™s drifting towards the second, work-life balance is at risk. I wouldnโ€™t say obsession but rather discipline helps one power through tough times

You can only motivate yourself so much. And while you need it, it starts to look like obsession after a while.

I said motivation, because while it's harder, I've found it to be a better driving force than obsession. Obsessions for me are very often intense but short term, not really helpful for long term driving force.
