Musk’s X to collect biometric information and employment data

The proliferation of bots on Twitter is undoubtedly a significant issue, and Musk's project is an attempt to tackle this problem head-on. While the initiative's intentions are commendable, it raises important questions about the extent to which we're willing to go in the name of countering bot activity.

On one hand, there's a genuine need to clean up digital platforms from automated spam and fake accounts. However, on the other hand, the collection of biometric data and government IDs for this purpose seems like a potential overreach, sparking concerns about privacy and security.

What's crucial here is understanding the broader perspective: Is the fight against bots worth sacrificing some aspects of our privacy? This question prompts a larger discussion about how we strike a balance between security and personal freedoms in our increasingly digital world.

What are your thoughts on this issue sales savages?

https://www.cnbc.com/2023/09/01/musks-x-to-collect-biometric-information-and-employment-data.html Musk's X to collect biometric information and employment data X will start collecting users' biometric information and employment history, according to an update to its privacy policy.

I'd be willing to give up this information if it meant no more bots on social media

So you would rather give your employment information to LinkedIn and Microsoft?
I think as X is launching a competing platform it makes sense. If you use LinkedIn, you've already lost the battle anyway so not sure what does it matter. Creepy yes. New? No

Excellent points. Personally I've been trying to use protocols like Nostr more and traditional social media less

I think either you are on it or you have to be very careful with Google and not having your phone in the same room etc.

It is actually insane how much data Google collects on its users as well as how much they pay apple to be the iPhone's default browser!!

Even all the smartwear people wear. All the apps either you or the kids get on phones. Sometimes they weirdly have location access. Or microphone access. Or camera access. Those apps do not need those accesses. I am seeing increased amount of X person verified GOV id on LinkedIn. I think at this point it's use it but don't get chipped, don't get anything surgical and keep kids away from AI apps (facetune, snapchat, tiktok, faceswap etc.) as much as possible... Stick with one biometric option like fingerprint. At the same time it is much more concerning how well airports and scanners there protect the information. But like I said as one individual yeah it's crazy but Elon per say is doing nothing new. I personally have a strong preference for anything but Microsoft but that is the side I am choosing.

I really don't believe that he'll ever wipe out the bots. If he does, the ad rev takes another big shit. He's got serious problems.

This was the idea behind soulbound tokens. It is verification that you can bring with you. As long as there are legit compliance and security, you should be good. But I doubt it

Biometric information is already held by Apple for login and all that jazz, Your personal information, it's all out there, where you live, and your phone number can all be found pretty easily with a Google search. Personally, I don't really care.

Several state governments are already getting ahead of this trend. Illinois, Indiana, Utah, Massachusetts, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Oregon all recently passed laws banning the collection of biometric data outside of direct medtech or govt security applications.
