New job for same salary, worth it or keep searching?

My current job is pushing me into a corner.

They recently made changes in our internal process that fundamentally change my daily life.

  • Increased time for processing orders
  • Lots more issues with clients that customer services can't (or don't want to) handle
  • No accountability from any departments for our system error
  • Lots of vacant territories (Mainly due to burnout) = increased workload for me

That's the main points, but the list goes on.

We are the leader in our industry, our products are the best out there, but our client experience is sub-par and I'm slowly getting burned down.

I was offered a mid-market Field sales role (vs my inside role with SMB)

The job, the industry and the hiring manager are all a good fit and exactly in line with my career growth path, however I find the salary pretty low. Without car allowance, it will account for only a 5-7k increase on OTE

They are justifying it by having aggressive accelerators (Almost double commission after attaining quota) and aren't exactly flexible on offering me a better base.

Accept the offer to improve my mental health or keep searching for a better salary?

TLDR : For the sake of my mental health, I need to make a switch. The offer I received is in line with my career growth, but no real increase in salary. Is it worth making the switch, or should I keep searching

That's totally up to you. I wouldn't make a lateral move personally.

Same here. Might only consider it if I was going into something I knew would sell fast and easy and the comp plan had legs.

What % of the team is hitting quota? Are you currently hitting quota? Does your current team have a low quota %?

If you arent and the new team has more realistic quotas, I would make the move since you have a better chance of hitting OTE.

Currently 5 out of 15 are hitting quota. Myself, I'm at 98% YTD but considering I'm managing 4 territories instead of one I believe I would be above quota in a normal situation. Quota was increased by 20% this year vs last year.

The other company has a smaller team of 7, which 5 out of them hit quota last year

Always choose your mental health. Take the position & give ten percent to the other job till they fire you. 2 months of pay will equate to 10% raise on the other position in the short run.

How do you feel about it? Positive?

I know we seem to point out that a move only makes sense if there's a big bump in base, but honestly, if it suits you and seems to be the right move, consider it.

Always do what is best for you. And that may not always be about money.

I think you're right and that's why I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around it. If it weren't for the low salary, I would have accepted right away. Everything else fits in with my long-term career objectives

It's hard when something checks almost all the boxes, but not all.

If you can live with the salary for now, it might be worth the move anyway.

I would go if it would make your mental health better. That's the most important thing you have

Unless you're really unhappy where you are, best to make a move that isn't so lateral.

You need to take of yourself - mind and bank account.

Take it! It shows consistency in your craft and performance.

Overall, continue to make sure you are learning in the role and stretching.

If not, that's a bigger personal question.

I always ask in interviews, tell me how you started, evolved, and grew. This mostly happens after the 24 months mark, and is when I have noticed folks really cash out their time and effort to drive the biggest impact.

As long as you can continuing building a roster of STAR answers ( https://www.themuse.com/advice/star-interview-method) I would say keep it going!

It is a fairly solid and objective check mark for you in the positive column that you received a raise in your current role, and for what reason. Shows the org' you work with sees an immense amount of value in you on the team, and does not want you to leave.

Thanks for the feedback.
It's true, salary wise it would feel like a lateral move. But the role itself will be a step up to my current situation.

hmm i mean i think it could work out. I would dig into what the current team is doing in terms of results to see if that double commission is realistic. but sounds like a win.

I have another meeting scheduled with HR and the HM tomorrow morning. I've asked about the detail of their comp plan so I could see those bucket myself and calculate how realistic that is
