Plans after customer-facing role

I was wondering what the longterm looks like for the savages in the WR, especially after all the layoffs may have been a wake up call for some…

Do some of you expect to be making cold calls in a customer facing role right up to retirement or is this just a short term solution to get to the longterm play? And everything in between…

This is for all the BDRs / AEs and low level sales managers…

What are your plans after your customer-facing sales role?

I'm already at the point where when my company went through a "give us your 5-10 year plan for career advancement" , I got the giggles after my massive eyeroll. I mean, this is it. I'm not changing now. I'll be an IC until I decide to hang it up and head for a beach permanently.

Of course it will be a nice beach! :)

But yes, I have absolutely zero career aspirations at this point.

I'm certainly not looking to be doing traditional cold calls when I'm 50...

Eventually having a book of business that allows me to not have to cold call.

May take 1 year. May take 5.

Hustle at sales and build up a solid client list. Keep my expenses low and save like crazy putting money into my trading account. Once I have enough $$ built up, start investing in commercial properties.

My main goal is to build something up that makes a fairly passive income that I can pass on to my kids so they can have some security as they go out into the world and start their businesses or whatever they want to do.

It will most likely be a combination for me. Will probably be customer facing at least partially until retirement, but hoping to buy into a minority ownership in the company I currently work for as well in the future.

This was always a means to an end for me; Starting my own business using the capital acquired from this sales career is my goal.

How about yourself Cadence?

They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
I have straddled leadership/IC roles my entire career - but always customer facing (I don't lead from behind).

I am leaning more toward leadership roles, but I always go to what pays the best. And like people, overall, so I have no problem being in front of them.

I have like 8 more years of IC left in me if I am not promoted to being a sales manager by 40 years old, not sure what I would do...

I think the best option is try your hand at leadership, Burn out then go back to an IC. I’m currently burning out and it’s going just as planned.
