“Hey X since people like you’ve I’ve met with have mentioned they’re dealing with X/Y and that events like these are a great way to review many solutions quickly, it’d be great to get your take on it. What are you most excited for here?”

Then gauge their response. If they mention any specific things they’re doing or as an example, talks they’re giving, offer to attend and catch up after. That way you can have more to discuss, get a better sense of what they care about, and make them feel like you genuinely want to connect.

I’m never one for asking for something in the first message. Even internally you want to ask someone how they are or something before getting right into what they can do for you.

I heard emails work.

I heard carrier pigeon and smoke signals can be equally effective if the message is written in crayon

In addition to emails I would recommend using LinkedIn and following the conference and searching related hash tags. It takes seconds per day and I usually pull 2 or 3 extra meetings from it.

“hey saw on LinkedIn that you are going to widgetFEST 22, so am I. Our company widgets harder than any other widget.”

Modify as necessary in case you aren’t into widgets.

What has worked for me is being super specific about what and when.

"hi__ I saw you had signed up for the ___ event are you still planning on attending? Great, I know there is a happy hour at 7 on the first night, Would you want to meet up there? Id love to introduce my self and get your thoughts on (XYZ)."

this is super easy to say yes to because you have planned it already, also if they say no, have a back up option.

Do it.  Most don't. If you leave VM, assume the meeting, call their cell from the show and again, assume the meeting.
