Previous company is losing salespeople left and right, think I made a great decision leaving. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Used to work for a SaaS company and for over a year it felt like I had nowhere to grow into. I left back in March and haven't looked back. Since then, 3 members on my team and close to a dozen in the office have left with bad tastes in their mouths. Many having the same gripes with a sense of relief to get out and go to an employee who values them. Curious to hear if this is something others have experienced, especially in the Covid/WFH world.

I can't say that I have. What I can say is don't let the past take your attention away from the present or you will screw up your future. 🦊

That makes a lot of sense, everyone has past jobs and looking back isn't looking forward! (yeah I heard how cheesy that sounded) Thanks for the advice!

I left my company back in March and since 26 people that were still there have left. A few key players in that group. Feels good to have gotten off that ship.

I feel you, just helped a colleague of mine jump ship to another company by putting him In touch with a recruiter. I'd left back in June.

Nothing wrong with being glad for leaving. Just help out the poor dudes/dudettes who are still there!

P.s some good 💸 in the referral game and I guess like karma n'shit

That's awesome, referring to your previous company that's something I never even considered. You weren't compensated for a referral I take it, though that would be amazing 😉. And yeah completely agree if there's someone in need of help, you do it. Never know when/who you'll bump into later in life.

Oh I mean referring ex-colleagues to recruitment agencies. I got like £250 and the next one will be £375. Reason to keep in touch 😉

Oh I never thought of that. Recruitment agencies give referral bonuses too? Perhaps a regional custom that here in Toronto hasn't had yet?

My friends/past colleagues joke that I have a "hellfire" detector - I innately understand the signs that the company is about to circle the drain. One company riffed 40% of the company two weeks after I left, another was acquired in a fire sale so bad that all equity was completely worthless three weeks after I left and 60% of employees bailed on the new company in 6 months, another made a huge technical mistake on their big campaign day and lost all cred and millions of dollars two months after I left.

In the series B-D world, there are signs. As an IC, you cannot fix shit, you either have to push through it or leave. So my resume looks flighty as a result, but I am fine with it for the moment. Probably need to head to a public company soon for more politics but less rollercoaster drama.

I left a division of our company and moved to a new one 14 months ago. Since then, the old division has lost 27 sales and sales adjacent people globally. I’m feeling pretty good.

Oh wow, that has to be a source of pride and I imagine puts a big smile on your face!

I left my last job as an SDR at a tech startup to join a great company as an AE. 2 weeks later the whole sales team, VPs and all, were fired so they could “focus on the product”

Had this with my first company. About a month after I left, an SE who had been there for 15 years went to a competitor. Company went from 20 people in EMEA to less than 5 over the next two years.
Agree with CuriousFox though, focus on where you are now

Being able to look back and feel that you made the right choice is such a great feeling.
I feel that way about my last company and they are far in the rearview now. They are still floundering and having no luck hiring because they don't pay competitive wages and they don't know how to run a company even after so many of us left.
I hope you enjoy the bliss of being somewhere better!

That's amazing to hear, and believe me I'm enjoying the bliss too! Crazy how overlooked a simple aspect of competitive wages can be for many companies.

It's so funny how companies trying to scale faster after Covid have gone into hire fast, fire fast mode.

Been in the same place, left that previous org and later found out through ex colleagues that they have become 100% more toxic. Best we can do is to learn from what we were in and make our "present" fantastic!

Very happy for you mate!

Very happy for you too! Always reassuring when others are in the same boat as you and also have had great experiences following this. Cheers!

Yes. If you're thinking that it's obvious. Most important thing to ask is WHY are people leaving? Are they leaving because they are so shocked the company pays well, treats em well, and has good growth opportunities? Prob not 🤣

Kind of, my previous company is trying to hire people and is struggling to get them to stick. So They're not neccessarily losing people, but struggling to grow.

Once I left my previous company, there was a mass exodus of sales people. Company went down the drain, which I'm not too upset about.

My former company has a 42% retention rate. I robbed Peter to pay Paul with my new job but it's less work and more money so...🤷🏻‍♀️

I think you should take yourself out for a drink and celebrate your foresight in leaving that company.  After the drink, follow @CuriousFox 's advice and make your current job your complete focus!  Congrats!
