RANT: I f-ing hate RFPs

Not a question or anything, just a rant.

Big named account in my territory, engaged with them for meetings/demo, before the RFP release.

RFP released, done well during response and clarification calls, then my champ tells me the competitor is 75% our price across a 5-year TCO. Now one month till the date they were supposed to respond with results and gone cold, no responses to my phone calls, emails, etc.

Obv chances are they already are negotiating with the competitor. so damn frustrating.

Yeah sometimes you just get beat. I had a large $700k plus job on the line with a contractor I have a good relationship with who I was negotiating and following up with regularly. At the end someone came in and beat me by six figures and I was second best price. Even my contact was like “I mean how do I not take the deal? They could severely fuck yup and they would still be way cheaper”

Super frustrating to lose on price only , but you gotta take it on the chin and go sell the next opportunity.

And don't keep all of your eggs in 1 RFP basket. Those eggs rot like a mofo.

Besides price what are the eval criteria? Your champion should be able to tell you this. Unless you’re selling a complete commodity, there should be other scoring factors besides price.

And how much is price weighed in the eval? The whole point of discovery (which it sounds like you could have done better) is to get past price and understand their vision and goals. If you align with those, price isn’t as much a factor.

Did your competition get wind of your proposal and under cut your price? Seems like this guy was playimg bothbside of the coin. It sucks when someone under cuts your price. Dont spend time you can't get back lamenting over that deal. Keep those guys as a prospect in your back pocket, you never know when your competitor might screw up. In the mean time you can only control the controllable. Time to dust yourself off and move to the next victim. Happy hunting.

It’s one of the processes in sales that I just can’t stand. Especially when it has 300 fucking requirements listed and you know it only came your way to get an extra bid to beat up on their preferred vendor.

The bigger the company the more likely they go this route, and it is always brutal, written by some dink in procurement whose looking for a catch all solution that NOBODY fits.

Never been a big fan of them myself. Feel like you're playing from behind always when an RFP is rolled out.

RFPs are a blessing and a curse. Usually the latter, so I feel your pain.

Question for you: does your competition routinely come in that much lower? Was this unexpected?
