Reacting to a call back from a Prospect?

What do you do when a prospect randomly calls you back? I have been caught out a few times where a receptionist has asked for my mobile 'and i'll get them to call you back'...yeah yeah yeah, no you won't.

So you go about your day and randomly get a call thinking it's a scam or someone selling to you but you answer and they say 'Yeah hi I was left a message to call you back, it's X name?' but you simply can't recall who they are or when you rang them.

How do you react or what do you say to not sound rude?

I always answer "this is NAME" for an unrecognized number.ย  Presumably your messaging is the same/similar enough [unless you have a broad portfolio and are pitching very different things to different personas]...thank them for callback and go into the standard pitch as you would have if they had picked up on the first ring

Yeah, true. I didn't think about just saying thanks and going into the pitch, nice!ย

Honestly I never answer the call back unless I have time to put the number into SalesLoft and check who the prospect is

Why? What if that prospect, next time you ring, is put off as you asked for a callback and ignored it? Would like to know how this tactic works if you then try to engage with them again!

I usually never leave voicemails, but I will call the number back immediately if I did not have time to search them up in my CRM before they stopped calling back. I just like clarifying who the prospect is so I have their name, company, and relevance lined up. Too many times I've answered unprepared and the prospect gets annoyed.

No worries! Ignoring prospects who took the time to call you back is definitely not the move. Glad we clearedย things up :)

Same. I never answer a call if I don't know who it is. Nobody's going to be annoyed if you call them back in a few minutes, people do go to the bathroom and get other calls after all...ย
