I am only comped on new business, but I do work some strategic growth accounts in addition to my focus on new logos.

I don't have a renewal quota but I do get comped on renewals. so far I've only had one account not renew so things are pretty good in that area.

It's pretty great. We have an awesome team delivering on my promises so my management of these accounts is literally just fancy dinners and a 15 minute zoom once a week. It's a pretty good gig.

I chose the last one because it's a small amount. They are really focused more on new business.

If your given a renewal quota it’s gonna be high.

Why do you say that? And what would you consider high?

85%. A lot of businesses will commit to renewal percentages of that high and if you are getting renewal credit you need to be a value add on that baked in number. I wouldn’t be surprised if they drop 90% on you.

Renewal doesn’t count towards quota but we can do upsell within a few weeks of closing along with renewals before it goes to AMs. We do NetNew.

Expected to renew over 100%. Example: if territory starts the year with $10M ARR, goal is to finish year with $11M ARR. Price increases, upsells, and new business all count and offset any losses or price concessions.

Used to have an 8-12% growth rate tacked onto my quota each quarter and it succccckkkeeeeddd. Went to the AE life since and it is better but really that’s like saying the Russians were better than the nazis in WW2

It used to be between $5-7m which was historic rev plus some new revolving customers. Now it is closer to $10m.

As most people are noting, it seems to be less common for renewal to be part of the quota itself. If it is, it's almost 'built in' with a set number.

It sounds like for you that having a renewal component would be a new thing for your plan, so is there room for negotiation? One thing I would say is "Do you want me to hunt net new, or spend a lot of my time taking care of existing customers?". I'm guessing your company doesn't have a CSM team or the like to take care of existing?

If there is room for negotiation, I might try and get the renewal component put into a separate comp 'bucket'. For example, you have your main sales plan, whatever those numbers are. You then have a separate renewal target, and you earn commission on that based on the renewal target. This way, it's 'unlinked' and if the renewals are low, it has less impact to you.

There's a few different ways for them to bring in renewals into your sales plan so at the end of the day it's hard to say (mine as a seller previously was that renewals simply accrued to my overall number and so it just made my quota extra high)...

I have a new ARR quota and some strategic growth / expansion quota. Focus is on new ARR. Expansion is <10% of what me new ARR is.
