My quota for this year has been lowered, should I be worried? i always heard that having a quota reduction is a huge red flag.

I think you're right to have alarm bells.   If it were me, I'd start looking externally and, of course, say nothing to your current employer that you are doing so.

The only thing is I want to move into an AE role and it’s so hard to do that externally.

wow there are companies that do this!

did they give you an explanation why?

I am assuming people were not hitting quota? I would hope that a company would lower quota to people believe they can actually hit it and drive productivity up.

Id view this as a good sing not a bad sign.

They said it’s because they’re hiring more in revenue dept but that demand will start to slow for our technology.

hmm well slowing demand is not a good sign....but at least the taking the right action and lowering quota.

I do agree but slowing demand makes alarm bells go off in my head. My fear is being out of a job in a year.

oh yeah i hear you on that.

I would not be very excited to work in sales for a company that is telling me that demand is going down......

If I were you id look at jumping over to Customer Success (if you like the company) or try to find a gig at a place that is actually growing.

I want to be an AE, I don’t think CS would be a good fit for me.

Yeah I'd start polishing that resume if leadership is forecasting lower demand.

A lot of organizations have been facing issues with talent retention, so are putting out more "realistic" quotas recently. I'd raise it to your manager to get the real picture. In all cases, this could be a great opportunity to exceed your quota and make hella $$$. Good luck!

I wouldn't necessarily see this as a red flag. It totally depends on their reasoning. Did theys ay why they did that?

Hiring more sales folks but they also said demand would decrease for the product this year

Why would they hire more salespeople if demand will decrease? That doesn't seem good to me, I'd start looking. You're in luck though because you are almost guaranteed a raise in this hiring market

I was confused too! What’s holding me back from looking is I have a shot at a promotion if they stop dragging their feet and I love my team

yea I'm not sure.. we had a quota reduction in 2020 because it was worried for our industry so it did not make me too worried. i think it just depends on the reason.
