Sales Boot Camp or no boot camp

how did you get your experience in tech sales? Did you take a free sales boot camp, did you take any other resources on the internet or did you dive head first into tech sales?

As a SDR/BDR and AEs would you recommend a sales boot camp for those that want to get into tech sales?

The company will put you through training after you are hired.

Oh okay thanks. Idk I expected that you’ll go in without training lol but yes! Thank you @CuriousFox

Same as others. Started as an SDR on ground. Best bootcamp ever.

I did not do sales boot camp. I was in financial services and then got into tech sales by being an SDR.

It didn’t make your experience harder in the beginning? Especially with interviews and meeting with the hiring managers?

so it didnt make meetings with hiring managers any harder. once i understood the language and how they viewed certain topics, i was able to do well in interviews. it was harder to convince recruiters that I was a viable candidate.

But i knew I had valuable experience so i didnt think i needed to do a bootcamp. just needed to find the right company.

Being an SDR is probably the best boot camp you can do, plus you get paid to do it. I guess if it’s free it couldn’t hurt though!

I did take a free one, but I wouldn't make it the main goal. Most of what you need to learn or do your company should train and communicate expectations around it.

Thanks for the feedback. I’m currently taking a sales boot camp at the moment with a possibility of apprenticeship that pays but I have recruiters on LinkedIn messaging me to want to hire and hold a interview with me. That’s why I was asking the question but all of the input that you all have mentioned has helped a lot!

Definitely take their calls. The worst that can happen is you get practice with interviewing

go straight into it. Learn by trial and error and from your successful peers. A bootcamp is a waste of time and money imo. time spent in the seat is the best way to learn and grow as far as im concerned.

I applied to a free bootcamp thinking it would be helpful, but was fortunate enough to get 2 offers during the time period. The company you choose will have a ramping period which is its version of a bootcamp. It might be better to just start applying to jobs

What CuriousFox said, they’ll train you once you’re in.

However, in order to get into sales interviews and show them I knew what I was talking about, I took Vendition’s free sales bootcamp.

Actually helped me land an SMB AE role without any previous experience. Highly recommend it or Aspireship if you’re just trying to get in. Vendition and Aspireship are both free.

Those that say no. Why do you not recommend a sales boot camp?

And those that have voted yes, why?

I had a class in my post grad on selling but otherwise just got right in there. You should have training from the company, but the best is just getting in some reps in and shadowing.

Sdr is typically entry level, dedicate time to lock in those interviews; you can definitely jump right in
