SDR contractor gig - need tech stack advice

I'm unemployed due to a RIF and thankfully just got a 100% commission cold-calling gig while I collect unemployment. The startup will provide me with an email address, HubSpot and Slack. But, I need to purchase my own calling software and maybe an Auto Dialer (and headset from Amazon). Since I'm paying for this myself, what's a good and cheap solution for my home office?

Wait, why would a company make an employee personally buy tools to do their job? I've got some alarm bells going off at the moment.

I've worked as a 1099 contractor twice before. As a contractor, you're actually responsible for providing your own tools and supplies. You can write them off on your taxes.

Thanks - I guess it makes sense if you move from job to job as well. Then you're operating with equipment with which you're familiar and not waiting for boxes to come and go.

Good insight, raises serious questions to me but perhaps the flags aren't as red as they seem.
I do wonder about eligibility for unemployment while doing this - it wouldn't fly in Canada

Unemployment will run out in 4 weeks and I most likely won't get a sale for 4 weeks, so the timing is perfect. It's 100% commision - no base or hourly rate.

Yeah, that's suspect.

I want to say Orum is super affordable for their "Launch" plan. When we were looking at them as a potential solution the highest tier plan was something like $7k/person/year, which isn't something I would pay personally, but maybe check out the individual pricing.

Kind of wack that they aren't paying for any tech stack beyond hubspot and slack.

Are there other contract SDRs? If so, it might be worth a conversation with the sales leader about purchasing Outreach or Salesloft. Should be a fairly easy business case to present.

Maybe do some research to see if if these could be a business expense so you can get the best software
