Slide Decks?

Hey all, I wanted your feedback here.

In a one on one Zoom meeting scenario do you use slide decks?

Personally, I don't care for them, but I'm just following process here. I get it more for a group presentation.

Welcome your thoughts!

They're helpful, but shouldn't do all the heavy lifting.

If they have ANY animation or "building" then they're garbage. This is sales, not Pixar.

Leveraging it as a part of the story and/or context-setting motion is all well and good...but I expect you to get off the deck and show me the product if we are doing a "demo".

Some slides can be very illustrative and help further the conversation.  It's helpful to provide a visual if you want to get a concept across, so even in a 1:1 conversation, a slide or two can help.

Personally, not a fan. BUT I do think it depends on the product & setting. For example, our product is really simple which would make the slide deck a little distracting in my opinion. We typically just talk through the product while having our UI up and people get it. If it's a more technical product that needs a lot of explanation then I think they could be a good thing

For demos I use about 5-6 slides to set up the demo and present key info. From there I show the product with examples and tell stories

Getting there. Once I’m done that I think I’ll be investing in a condominium project. I’ve got a contact to help with all the bureaucracy

Sounds legit. My advice is to get a close friend to support you and finance the project. Don’t need a contract not like he’s gonna smoke you or anything.

Hey Stringer, looking to do this for the first time. How do you conduct a initial disco call while blending with your 5-6 slides? What does the format look like?

Have em ready, and speak to them if something is brought up from the prospect that you can really play off.

But same thing, have the 1:1, get the info you need, push to larger meeting and present an overall pitch.

Slides to show architecture or similar things that can’t be conveyed in a demo easily or over the phone. But am generally averse to slides.

So pointless just to “have” - I hate when it’s put on AE to create these then they genuinely look like shit… we don’t study design or UX. I can give you fun bullet points, but it’s not gonna impress the prospect or give them a good first impression of the product. <br>So want to shoot yourself in the foot? Keep requiring we build decks.

If I can get away with not using one i do.

i try to keep out the "here is some info about us" because no one fucking cares.

Ill try to use it to establish agenda and visualize any topic we are discussing if it helps.

I also try to not leave the deck up on the screen if we are not talking about it (in the beginning to start off a call, or at the end when we are taking questions, establishing next steps.

I hate it when ppl leave the deck up for too long.

I sell a highly technical product with a lot of functionality. It's important to me to set the story before my demos with slides. I revisit the needs discovered during our disco call in a slide and give a high-level tour of the functionality they are going to see. I use the time to also glean any additional points of interest from new folks on the call to support my sales engineer with giving a tailored demo. I keep the wording to a super minimum and talk to the content on the slides in a way that always relates back to the prospect.

We are a SaaS company so I always walk through live examples and a demo. Chatting about current climate of our industry always provides the most value and creates FOMO.

So I do a mix of SaaS BD & Account Management in my current role, and find slides less helpful for BD, but generally good for Account Management.

When I'm doing BD: I'm storytelling, and I find that slides just distract people from what I'm saying & what I want them to feel.

When I'm running AM meetings: I find they're useful for providing market updates, success data and other numbers-y stuff. People don't retain any of that info when you just tell them, and they're useful for taking back and referencing internally - even more so for positioning yourself as a strategic partner rather than just a service provider.

There's no need to feel pressured to use them or not - it's all about what I'm trying to achieve, I find.
